Medehamstede Hotel, hotel in Shanklin

The Medehamstede Hotel is set amongst spacious well-kept gardens in the coastal town of Shanklin.

My room had been recently refurbished. I was extremely happy with it for the class of hotel and price and with a good breakfast included. It was handy for the beach, Shanklin Old Town , good restaurants and buses. The staff were exceptional, not only friendly but helpful above and beyond expected, managing and helping me resolve problems not of their making. The breakfast room, comfortable seating area and entertainment area and bar were good. There is also free wifi

The Chine is worth a visit!

The Chine is worth a visit! The ticket gives unlimited access for seven days. We took advantage of this and visited on three occasisons from top to bottom, and then in reverse! We were there mid may, and the Chine closed at 9pm, so it was too light for the illuminations to be seen at their best. But it was still a pleasant walk. Public transport is excellent from Shanklin and all the drivers we encountered were very friendly and helpful! We only had time for a brief exploration of the coastal paths, but the views are stunning!

It depends on what you like.

It depends on what you like. For me it is a typical Victorian seaside town, and the types of facilities on the seafront reflect this. Certainly it has much of what a family is looking for regarding entertainment, although some of the hotels did appear a bit run down. From a walking viewpoint it is lovely, although less mobile visitors may find some of the inclines a bit challenging!

A steep walk down to the Promenade which is clean and flat.

A steep walk down to the Promenade which is clean and flat. There is a good clean beach and amusements for children. Lift up and down to the promenade during the day . The old part of the town was worth a visit. Good place to eat with home cooked food and owned by the same family for over 30 years was The village Inn. Town centre a bit run down and typical of seaside town. Lots of pensioners on coach party holidays. Thorougly enjoyed Osborne House , weather permitting you could spend the day there. Due to the cost of the car ferry we will probably not visit the Isle again.

Shanklin and Sandown are beautiful beaches but both towns...

Shanklin and Sandown are beautiful beaches but both towns are dying. Shops empty etc. Parking expensive and a nightmare to find which took a lot of the enjoyment out of the trip. Parking charged 24 hours 7 days a week.

The owners (Pete and Warren) think about the guests, and I could see that in everything - the house, room, services, and breakfast. They were very caring, friendly, and kind and made me feel at home. My dog was very excited and noisy in the breakfast room, had a toilet accident, and got sick, but they were very understanding. Not many places allow dogs in the eating area, so it was nice. The room was super clean and comfortable, I definitely come back for my next visit to IoW!

Beautiful seafront location. Staff really friendly and helpful. The evening food was tasty and great value. Good choice on the breakfast menu. The coffee is excellent. Loved going to sleep to the sound of the waves breaking on the beach. Room was very clean, fresh and bright. Described as a budget room, excellent value. Location is great for exploring Shanklin old and new. We didn't need parking but plenty around (payable to IOW council.)

From the moment we arrived Richard and his family were very welcoming. Excellent location, less than 5 mins walk down to Shanklin seafront. Apparently was clean and very welcoming. Comfy sofa too :-) Everything you need for a short break including some nice little touches. The only disappointment was that we didn't get to use the brand new weber bbq on the patio!
