The little town within the crater is a very special place and Casa Helena was the perfect place for us to stay. Communication in advance was already great because our questions about transfer and guide were immediately answered in a very friendly way. We were picked up at the airport in the morning and dropped in Sao Felipe for a stroll where we also bought some snacks. Around midday we were then taken to the accommodation. The drive was a public aluguer which made the transfer so much cheaper and the drives in the aluguers were always highlights during our time on Cabo Verde! We also already met our guide Marcello for the Volcano hike and he was great, too. Good English, super friendly and flexible. We were able to ask him all our questions! And listening to the stories of the 2014 eruption as well as life at such a special place was very valuable. We stayed for a few nights and it was one of the most impressive places on earth that we have ever seen. We really enjoyed going running, hiking, strolling and biking (we rented bikes at the Marisa hotel which was expensive but the bikes were incredibly good). The room was in one of the traditional round houses with a bathroom and had everything that we needed! Also the food was delicious and everyone was wonderful and friendly!! Thank you so much for this absolute highlight of our holiday and for taking such good care of us! An additional plus: the CHA wine! So good!

I booked for 2 nights with breakfast included in October. It was the end of the rainy season and everyone in town was busy with renovations for the upcoming high season. It is a family business and the hosts are very welcoming, friendly and helpful. Ciza is a professional, very knowledgeable and passionate tour guide and Rose is an excellent cook. When booking, I did not inform them of my dietary needs (very sorry) and they were able to accommodate me on the spot, which I appreciated very much. I decided to extend my stay for another 2 nights because I really enjoyed it and there are many things to explore. I would recommend not only staying at Ciza&Rose, but also letting them organize the hiking activities for you so that you get the most out of your vacation in Portela.

Staying at Casa Marisia was honestly the best choice I could have made for my days on Fogo Island. Everything was so well taken care of — from arranging my transport to organizing a guide for the volcano hike, they made everything easy and stress-free. The staff are just the sweetest people, always kind and welcoming, and they really made me feel at home. And the food… wow, absolutely delicious, every meal was a highlight. If you’re reading this, don’t think twice — book a room at Casa Marisia, you definitely won’t regret it.

Hotel Savana is een accommodatie met 3 sterren tegenover het strand in São Filipe met heeft een buitenzwembad, een tuin en een terras. Beautiful old villa in the best location in Sao Filipe. I was upgraded to the nicest room they have - it was very spacious and with breathtaking view over the sea and Brava island. Very pleasant staff, tasty breakfast and swimming pool. All of it for a decent price. Totally recommended!

Casa alcindo ligt in Chã das Caldeiras en biedt een bar. Deze accommodatie beschikt over een restaurant en een 24-uursreceptie. U geniet hier van uitzicht op de bergen. Amazing stay. Alcindo and Leticia did everything that they could to make our stay memorable. We are thankful for their generosity, time and general love of the good things in life. We thoroughly recommend doing the hike with a guide !

TCHAN LOVe bevindt zich in Portela met uitzicht op de stad en heeft een restaurant, een kinderclub, bar, tuin, terras en speeltuin. De bed & breakfast beschikt over zowel gratis WiFi als... This is a very nice place to stay for couple nights. Quiet, comfortable. Breakfast was included and I have asked for it at 6am, so the Lady just left it from the evening (coffee in a termopot). Also you can ask for a dinner, which is really good, super tasty (Ive got a fish with rice and veggies for 900 escudo). And also you can ask for some wine (industrial or craft homemade, about 200 per glass). The place has not many reviews but it's seems super new, means you will have also super new bathroom which is nice bonus for staying. As for the transfer: you can book the place in Alluger with the room booking. The way from Sao Filipi is 50-60 mins and costs 1000 escudo. As for the trekking: 1. The location is the best, right next to the start of few trekking routes 2. You can ask the owner for a guide, just ask for someone local who is actually based here in Caldeiras and not in Sao Filipe. As for the Pico Grande you will definitely need a guide because it's super tricky route. For the Pico Grande the usual price is 6000 per person but it's could be a discount if you are in group 3. Also you can walk by yourself (without guide) for couple places: e.g Pico Pequeno (it's now that far) and also you can walk to the Forest Monte Velha (about 5 kms till the entrance to the Forest) or even to Mosteiros (about 16 kms in total, 10 kms at the normal road and 6 kms are a bit difficult, inside the forest - not the easiest trail but it's possible)

Katya is very welcoming, cooks very (very very) well and takes care of her client like no one did in Cap Verde. We have spent 2 weeks in Cabo Verde and haven’t met anyone that kind, welcoming and helpful. The place is also amazing. Out of nowhere, facing the sea, natural swimming pool… you name it! Katya also offers a few options to discover Fogo island like pico de fogo.

Casa Adriano & Filomena bevindt zich in Portela en biedt een restaurant en een bar. Deze bed & breakfast heeft gratis privéparkeren en een gedeelde keuken. Wij hadden hier een fantastische tijd. Zeer propere mooie kamers, goede propere badkamer. Een fijne eetkamer met veel ramen en machtig zicht op de vulkaan. Heel lekker eten en ontbijt. De hosts waren supervriendelijk en ook heel lief voor onze kinderen. Dit is een plek die onze harten heeft veroverd. Filomena en Adriano zijn prachtige mensen. We kregen veel uitleg, speelden samen voetbal en een gezelschapspelletje en voelden ons deel van de familie. We vroegen ter plaatse een gids om de vulkaan te beklimmen. Zoon en gids Adriano ging met ons mee en het werd het prachtige ervaring. Dankzij Adriano bereikten we de top samen met onze 2 kinderen van 3 en 5 jaar en ook de afdaling door de lava was fantastisch. Een onvergetelijke dag. Allen hierheen. Je zal het je niet beklagen.
