The apartment is very modern, clean, on the 11th floor with a living area and a kitchen. I felt very safe and the host Dani is very kind and picked me up late in the night from the airport (the location is directly next to the airport but you can only access the airport on the west side and the apartment is on the east side) and Dani was so helpful with further questions and arranging a taxi for the next day to Antigua.

La Aurora International is located 4 miles (around 6 kilometres) from Guatemala City and around 15 miles (25 kilometres) from Antigua Guatemala. Taxis are the most convenient way to travel between the airport and the city centres. A ride to Guatemala City will take around 20 minutes, and Antigua Guatemala will be around 50 minutes.

Guatemala is a very colorful and fascinating country. Tikal, Antigua and Lake Atitlan are world class scenery. The Mayan people are still very much alive with their beautiful vivid color clothing and smiling faces. They are generally very friendly and almost spiritual feeling with a different vibe than people in Mexico. The climate is perfect at around 70 degrees in the Highlands. I feel it is very safe there if you stay in main areas. Don't hesitate to visit Guatemala if you want a true 3rd world experience!

It’s a beautiful pristine room with good quality bedding and a large king size bed however, when the owner gives the Taxi Driver the code to the building in your room and there’s no lock inside the room to keep you safe it’s a security risk. On top of that, he said he would resolve the Wi-Fi that evening and by morning the Wi-Fi network disappeared. I never got resolved.

I love Guatemala.
I love Guatemala. My main interest is textiles, so I was in heaven there. I read warnings of danger to travelers to Guatemala, and was worried about going, but we found the local people very friendly and so likeable. We did spend most of our time at Lake Atitlan and tried to avoid the cities. For other textile traveler I recommend 'A Textile Traveler's Guide to Guatemala' by Deborah Chandler.

Beautiful country, incredibly kind and helpful local people (a little spanish goes miles), affordable, and with a variety of options at all price points. Not quite as cheap as expected (coffees will typically be about 25-30 Quetzales/~$4USD, food anywhere between 50-200 quetzales). Transportation between cities is around $25-35USD for shared shuttles (I highly recommend this option), or about $100USD for ubers (I do not recommend this option as private drivers may not have experience driving to and from the places you desire AND it is much more expensive AND you will not be with other travelers so they may in turn feel less safe).
Overall very safe feeling country, even at night especially in places like Antigua/El Paredon/San Pedro La Laguna. Obviously, use your best judgement. I would avoid going to San Marcos La Laguna in the Lake Atitlan area unless you are interested in being surrounded by drugged-up hippie tourists. San Marcos La Laguna was the only place I visited in Guatemala that felt unsafe.

Very nice hotel just 350m from the Aurora airport (Guatemala City GUA) which is very important because the traffic is awful, and from this hotel it’s only 5 minutes.
We got a room in the 2 floors with no windows but that’s why it was very quiet and we couldn’t hear the airplanes. The room is clean and big, with good AC. We even got light breakfast (yogurt with granola and coffee).
