My wife and I traveled to Siem Reap, Cambodia, like many others, to experience the beauty and magic of Angkor Wat. This trip was part of a two-month journey through Southeast Asia and Japan. Even though we don't belong to the youngest generation we enjoy organizing our travels ourselves, and this year was no exception. Cambodia was a new country for us, and the main challenge was deciding where to stay. By chance, we discovered Koemle Homestay. We prefer to avoid hotels in favor of experiencing local life and culture as much as possible. Staying with the Koemle family turned out to be as enriching an experience as visiting the ancient temples of Siem Reap. As agreed, Koemle picked us up at the airport upon our arrival - on time and in a comfortable, air-conditioned minivan. It felt like we had already become friends during the 50-minute drive to his home. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by his entire family: his lovely wife, Chinda, and their four wonderful children—Maryta, Elliya, Outra, and baby Kitakun. Koemle Homestay is a small apartment attached to the family’s main house. It has a separate entrance with a tinted glass door, a spacious main room with two very comfortable beds (comparable to U.S. queen-sized beds), and a large bathroom featuring a glass-enclosed shower. Everything was clean and very comfortable. The living area is tastefully decorated with a few pieces of furniture, a wardrobe, and amazing large photographs taken by Koemle Saing himself (he is a professional photographer). The apartment also has a small front yard filled with tropical greenery, providing a shaded oasis from Cambodia’s hot and humid weather. We usually enjoyed our breakfasts right there. The house Is located on the outskirts of the city, far enough to offer a taste of Cambodian countryside life yet close enough to reach Pub Street within about 15 minutes by tuk-tuk. After our experience, we wouldn’t trade this type of stay for any hotel in the city at all.

La Palmeraie d'Angkor ligt te midden van tropische privétuinen en biedt accommodatie met een eigen balkon en een buitenzwembad. Het ligt midden in een stukje paradijs. Vanaf de locatie kun je lopen, fietsen of met de TukTuk naar Siem Reap en daarna kom je weer heerlijk terug op deze mooie, rustige plek. Even een duik in het zwembad en genieten op je ruime terras. De mensen zijn ontzettend vriendelijk en behulpzaam. De TukTuk-driver van het hotel is geweldig; hij brengt je naar Siem Reap, wacht terwijl je bijvoorbeeld dineert en brengt je weer terug.

Sok Phen Homestay bevindt zich in Siem Reap en biedt gratis WiFi, gratis fietsen, een tuin en een terras. Sommige units hebben een eethoek en/of een patio. Sok Penh en Ohn, onze tuktuk chauffeur, lieten ons kennismaken met het toeristische, maar ook het authentieke Cambodja. Ze hielpen waar ze konden, maakten afspraken en brachten ons in contact met hun landgenoten. We hebben er trouwens ook heel lekker gegeten!

I really liked this place because of its authenticity (house instead of hotel, meals at one table with a big family, etc.), that is, I did not feel like a simple tourist because I was always next to a local resident, ready to help me with the choice of special activities. After I finished the standard set of activities for tourists, I discovered many places that tourists do not even suspect, unless of course they thoroughly explore the topic. As a result, in a few days we drove more than a thousand kilometers and got into an unimaginable wilderness, which I was completely delighted with. I recommend this place to anyone looking for non-standard adventures.

Royal Angkor Resort & Spa ligt te midden van 5 hectare aan tropische tuinen en biedt 5-sterrenkamers in een 20e-eeuws Khmer-gebouw in koloniale stijl. The overall appearance of the hotel is just charming - the staff super friendly and service oriented, probably the largest and best pool in whole Siem Reap for real swimmers, excellent garden, very well kept, unique samples from the historic times of Angkor Wat. Excellent breakfast buffet with western and asian features.Very suitable also for long term stays.
