Located 22 miles (35 kilometres) southeast of central Istanbul on the Asian side, Sabiha Gökçen Airport is one of two international airports serving the Turkish capital. The ‘Havataş’ shuttle bus service departs every half hour outside the arrivals area, costing TRY 14. The journey takes around 90 minutes, depending on traffic. A taxi will cost TRY 100, with a journey time of around one hour.
There’s one hotel inside the airport and several others within 5 miles (8 kilometres), in case you need to stay the night before a connecting flight. Most hotels offer a shuttle service. Since it is the second-busiest single-runway airport in the world, Sabiha Gökçen Airport has plenty of amenities to keep you entertained before takeoff. Shops vary from superstores and gift shops, to branded stores and a pharmacy. There’s also a range of restaurants, serving authentic Turkish food, and other useful services like banks, VIP lounges and a prayer room.
Sabiha Gökçen Airport has one terminal, used for both domestic and international flights.
