Located just a 1-minute walk from popular Miyagawa Morning Market in the heart of Takayama, Sumiyoshi Ryokan offers homely Japanese-style accommodation in the historic townhouse building. We have traveled to so many countries and stayed at so many homestays, hotels, bed and breakfast - you name it. This place, however, was one of the best - if not THE BEST - place we have ever stayed at - WORLDWIDE! such a friendly atmosphere there. The food is simply AMAZING!! the views are mind-blowing. The hosts are extremely friendly and go above and beyond to make your stay the best ever and as authentic as it can get. This is exactly what we had wished for during our Japan trip. It was simply great and madr our trip to Japan. The elderly man, his wife and their son as well as the whole staff was exceptional. ARIGATO! THANK YOU SO MUCH! PS: the onsen with views to the river (and the second one as well) is simply true bliss. Great!!!!!

Akakura Akarien, a property with a bar, is located in Myoko, 33 km from Zenkoji Temple, 35 km from Nagano Station, as well as 39 km from Suzaka City Zoo. Great location! We were able to walk less the 5 minutes to wherever we needed to go. (Restaurants, bars, rental shops, ski resorts.) we were in Japan for about 3 weeks and stayed at multiple hotels and it was by far my favorite! On top of that they served the best breakfast!! Super unique dishes that were absolutely divine! The staff were out of this world helpful, generous, and kind! Super clean environment, beds were comfortable, and the shower pressure was exactly what you needed after a full day of snowboarding! Carlo!!!!! Which is the owner, he was extremely welcoming, very personable, helpful, communicative. Traveling to a new country to snowboard, he was kind enough to take us out exclusively and show us around the mountain so we were comfortable and felt safe. On top of that, we had some trouble with shipping our boardbag, Carlo was kind enough to go out of his way to the deliver the bag to the company himself. He really made our into trip memorable! This staff made us feel like family! Shout out Connor, best bartender in Myoko!

Boasting a rooftop, open-air hot spring baths with magnificent views of Ise Bay, Shuku Kaifuu is located right along the coast of the ocean, just 8 minutes on the shuttle from Utsumi Train Station. We enjoyed food very much. We enjoyed Onsen.

Located in Tokamachi, 15 km from Gala Yuzawa Snow Resort, Setoguchi provides accommodation with a hot spring bath and a public bath. Our favourite stay of the trip. Like a time capsule, the outside is rustic and the inside is spacious and intact. Rice paper shoji screens and tatami throughout. The owners are absolutely wonderful and the food was the most varied and generous we had. Definitely order dinner, as well as breakfast, but starve yourself for a few days before you arrive.
