We took his advice and did another hour of touring to learn more about Atami. It was a very hospitable and warming journey we had had with this hotel. Really enjoyed staying at Ushiogumo: The facilities are brand-new and impeccable, amazing staff (!!), beautiful location that's close to scenic landscapes. The Kaiseki Ryori dinner was excellent, breakfast was great too! Each room has a private bath on the balcony. There's lots of amenities in the room. Plus, the hotel onsen is made available for private use from 6pm. It's a small property (I counted 7 rooms) and thus feels very cozy. The road in front of the hotel did not really bother us. The terrace windows are well-isolated to block out any noise and there's also the calming sound from the balcony onsen. Extra points for the super-friendly staff!!! ...who can also converse in English so it's no problem for foreign tourists.

The air-conditioned accommodation is 26 km from Hakone-Yumoto Station. Boasting family rooms, this property also provides guests with a terrace. Everything was great! 4 adults and 4 kids stayed there perfectly. Apartment was clean, had plenty of towels, disposable toothbrushes and body washing sponges. The manager was super nice, and the location was very convenient. We didn’t have a car, but everything was so close, so we didn’t need it anyways. We had amazing view of spectacular fireworks at the roof top!! I can keep going for many more positive experiences. We will be back!

Host was extremely friendly; I was travelling with my son and we had great fun using google translator. Location was great. Room, although on the small side, was fine with a private bathroom. Small breakfast was provided and we were able to bring back food to have in the kitchen for dinner. We caught the beginning of the blossom season and Plum Park was an easy short train ride and walk. Also easy access to the bus to Mt Fuji lookout although we could only see the top of it due to cloud.

The guesthouse is run by a very kind and generous young couple who do everything in their power to make the guests' stay as convenient as possible. The place is renovated, well organised and kept very clean. There is a lot of information about Shimoda, and different equipments and facilities are made available for different kinds of activities. The kitchen and the common space for dining, hanging and socializing is furnished tastefully and it also has a nice view over the bay. We met a lot of interesting people with whom we had a wonderful barbecue evening together with the hosts. I would recommend this place 100% to anyone visiting Shimoda. Our whole family is already missing this place.
