We loved stepping back in time at the Hunters Hotel. Ralph has done an amazing job bringing this relic back to life. It was not just a hotel stay, it was an experience. Nice to have breakfast too.

Wonderful couple, Karen and Steve were fantastic hosts. Stunning heritage home. Steve had a great sense of humour and prepared a delicious breakfast, highly recommend the homemade cereal and home cooked bread.

We drove to Ormiston House, Strahan from Cradle Mountain having spent the morning viewing the sights. We were met by Rose, the owner, who sat us down and briefed us on our room and got the details from each of us on what we would like for our specially tailored continental breakfast and what time we would like it. It was as if we were being introduced to an exclusive club, and this continued when Rose showed us our room, the Amelia Room with its bathroom with its claw foot bath overlooking the gardens. After checking in to the room we then were met by Rose's husband Terry, who greeted us with a glass of wine and talked us through the history of the Ormiston Family and the house and their connections with Strahan and nearby Queenstown, he then walked us through the house explaining its features and took us up into the tower to see the view and also view artefacts relating to the Ormiston family that he had collected and arranged in the tower room. We marvelled that each guest received a similar greeting and briefing. It set the standard for our three night stay. We were told about the Gordon River cruise which we had already booked, and also about the play which was staged each evening on the amphitheatre on the waterfront. It told the story of 10 convicts who working as boatbuilders highjacked the boat and sailed it to Chile. It has been running for some 30 years and each night's production is a world-record for an Australian play, only of course to be broken the following night. We were punchdrunk after all of this, but Ormiston and its grounds at No. 1 The Esplanade is the perfect place and perfect setting to explore Strahan, its harbour, the Gordon River, the wilderness, a trip on the Wilderness Railway to Queenstown.

The historic nature of the accommodation was lovely. The host was fabulous as was breakfast. The en-suited room was quaint yet modern with a nice combo of old and new. Quiet and great for a night or two. An awful lot cheaper than Strahan which seems overpriced for what and where it is given how close Queenstown is.

This old hotel, re-developed with a lot of time and hard work into a BnB, was authentic, charming and a little quirky. The host was friendly and helpful and room facilities were very good, especially the 'pretend' open fire which was a nice touch and worked efficiently. We had a roomy private bathroom directly opposite in the hall. The whole property is spacious with a large lounge. The original bar is the dining room and adds an original touch. Self-serve continental breakfast was simple, but adequate. Nice central location.

The hotel owner was friendly and the hotel has an old charm feel. It was quiet and within walking distance of groceries and pizza shops. It had all the comforts one could hope for, with facilities to make coffee and tea, a fireplace, chairs, and a private bathroom. The room was spotless and beautifully decorated. Thank you so much.
