I'm afraid my words will not be enough to express how much I loved my stay here. Kenさん and Yukiさん were extremely welcoming. I enjoyed my conversations with them, learning about Magome-juku, umeshu, and many other things despite my very lacking Japanese skills. When it was time for me to leave and embark on my hike to Tsumago-juku, they ran after me to give me a bottle of iced water to help me with the summer heat. I almost teared up from their kindness. I was on a solo trip for my birthday and they gave me the most memorable moment of my trip. Other things to note about this guesthouse: Room: I'm not sure about the other rooms but I secured the best one. It had an amazing view of Magome-juku. There is only a futon but it was very comfortable. The room is air-conditioned and although not sound-proof, Magome is quiet and you can hear the peaceful sounds of water flowing through the canals at night. Shared spaces: The shared spaces include the dining area, living area, toilets, showers, and an indoor bath. There is also a laundry area which you can use for a small fee (about 500 yen if I'm not mistaken). Reception is not 24/7 and the lights out is at 10pm I think. The shared spaces are not only clean, but they're also beautifully designed! Lots of dried flowers as decoration. Meals: You can opt to have dinner and breakfast here again for a small fee. Dinner is Indian curry and let me just say-- it was delicious! I had the spicy chicken keema, although personally I wish it was a bit spicier. The homemade yogurt was simply amazing. Breakfast is a simple spread of eggs, bread, yogurt, cereals, a variety of fruits, and drinks such as homemade juice and coffee from the coffee shop down the street. This was again very good and I enjoyed it more than I expected. I feel like Magome is a one-time destination because of its size, but I definitely want to come back and stay at sakanomichi again!

Guesthouse SHIGI ligt in Nakatsugawa, op 46 km van Gero Station, en biedt accommodatie met een tuin, gratis privéparkeren en een gedeelde lounge. Not only is the guest house absolutely beautiful, but the host was extremely helpful and hospitable which made this stay the best we had during our Japan trip. He drove us to Magome so that we managed to complete the Nakasendo trail just in time before the last bus departed. He also made a dinner reservation for us and drove us to an Onigiri restaurant for breakfast. We had a great stay!

みのり家 - Samurai-era house - 昔の暮らし体験 is gelegen in Takayama, op 26 km van Openluchtmuseum Hida Minzoku Mura, Hida no Sato en 27 km van treinstation Takayama, en biedt uitzicht op de bergen. We loved our stay at the Samurai-era house—it was a wonderful, authentic experience of the Japanese countryside as it was in the olden days. We opted for both breakfast and dinner, and both were excellent: simple but delicious meals made with ingredients from the surrounding area. Although the host couldn't speak much English, he used a translator to share the story of the house and what life was like for farmers during that era, which added so much to our experience. I only wish we could have stayed for more than one night. Not a negative, but do take note that the facility only offer shared bathroom.

Guesthouse Nedoko is aantrekkelijk gelegen in de wijk Magome in Nakatsugawa, en bevindt zich op 2 minuten lopen van Magome Observatory, een paar minuten lopen van Magome Wakihonjin Museum en 1 minuten... Het is een moderne guesthouse van alle gemakken voorzien. Het is comfortabel en eenvoudig ingericht. De douches en toiletten zijn uitstekend en super schoon - wel gedeeld maar ik heb slechts eenmaal even moeten wachten voor het toilet. De gastvrouw is heel vriendelijk & behulpzaam en spreekt goed Engels. De locatie is heel fijn en een goede uitvalsbasis voor de Nakasendo route.

Guesthouse Gifu SUAI bevindt zich in Gifu, op 29 km van Kasteel Nagoya, en biedt accommodatie met een tuin, gratis privéparkeren, een gedeelde lounge en een terras. Alle faciliteiten waren ruim en schoon. De kamer in japanse stijl was echt heel fijn. Ook de hosts Hiro en Kimiko waren heel aardig en behulpzaam. Samen met met hun dierenvriendjes hebben ze een heel fijn Guesthouse :)

Iwamura Guest House Yanagiya is gelegen in Ena, op 40 km van Kōrankei, en biedt accommodatie met airconditioning en een tuin. Bijzondere locatie, middenin historisch erfgoed. Bedden op de slaapzaal zijn ruim.
