The place has been a magic place for our stay in Zanzibar. We couldnt expect such a good vibes and relax at Mama Root. The host has been always available and friendly with the us, trying to explain the best things to do according to the season.

We stayed at the best place in Kizimkazi village! Yasmin was amazing – she took care of everything for us, from organizing tours to making sure we didn’t miss the whales. It’s definitely worth asking her about anything you need. The house is cozy and pampering. In the mornings, we ordered delicious breakfast from Yasmin’s restaurant. We felt completely safe – there’s a guard on-site 24/7. The house is surrounded by forest, and the moment you enter the path leading to it, it feels like stepping into a fairytale. No doubt we’ll be coming back at the end of our trip. Thanks to the whole team – and big thanks to Mama Yasmin!

I seriously loved everything about this place. The owner and staff are so sweet. The atmosphere is nice, loving and peaceful. I found it to be a simple, beautiful and inspirering place. And the garden and pool area invites you to relax and feel at home. On top of that, just 2 min. walk, you have one of the most secluded beaches I have found on this Island, with rocks, local atmosphere, good snorkeling and beautiful sunset views. I recommend to stay at least 5 days here - to really unwind and let that Polle-Polle feeling settle into every cell of your body. This is one of the hard-to-find-gems on the Island. If you need to unwind in one of this Planets most beautiful spots and aren't too hung up on luxury, this place is for you. I had a great time and truly appreciated the kind, honest and helpful hosts, Sarah and Omi and their lovely children. Simply the best host family you could imagine. Also I enjoyed the food cooked and grilled by Sarah and Omi. Fresh Kingfish, Barracuda and Dorado. But what really knocked my socks off was Omis charcoal grilled octopus. Oh, and the breakfast is great. Good coffee, fantastic mango fruit, chapati bread, eggs and some variation from day to day, wich is not something you should expect in all Zanzibari hotels. Oh, and did I mention that from the fine terrace you step right into the Indian Ocean. And 500 yds to the west lies about 50 fishing dhows at their buys. An hour before sunset is a good time to enjoy the fleet sailing into the sundown. I had binoculars and a cold sundowner beer ready.. About noon the tide comes in and its time for swimming. You can get dolphin and snorkeling tours from the nearby village that also has some good and laid-back restaurants. There is no AC but a good fan in the room. I found that to be sufficient. I believe I'll go again January next and take my wife with me. I think it would also be a great place for young families with children.

The design of the building amongst the trees has the feeling of being deep in the forest. The room was big and the staff were lovely. Fabulous location for the beach. The dog is so friendly. Great breakfast!

This is really a little paradise. Don’t hesitate to book this beautiful room. Also the village is very very nice, lots of wild life and you wake up with the sound of the sea.

Very good location, few steps (maybe 50 m or even less) from the beach, with their own restaurant ( very nice and cosy) on the beach, where you can leave your things and go to the sea. The food is good, for breakfast a lot of different things. The outdoor space is decorated in very nice tropic style with a pool and lot of palm trees and with nice artistic details. The rooms are big and also very nice with a lot of natural light, great bed and very clean. The staff and the owner are very professional and helpful. I had a really terrible sea sickness one day and the owner responded immediately with some medicine and offered to take me to the doctor if I needed. Luckily the medicine helped. Also some restaurants and small stores just few steps from the lodge and you can go for a walk even in the evening. The village is quiet. Locals are very friendly and I felt totally safe despite the fact that I travelled solo. I would warmly recommend this beautiful place to everyone!

We had such a great stay at Kobe House. Our rooms were great (apartment and balcony room) and the staff was so friendly and helpful. I had a good amount of hanging space in the apartment and the fridge was awesome. The breakfast does vary a bit which was nice and you can have leftovers in the afternoon by the pool as a little snack. Ibrahim always brought us something, also a coconut once. Without asking I was given a bigger pillow and Maryam even got up our last morning at 3am and saw us off. Also thanks again to Kevin for sorting out a light problem in my room without me having to move. We felt well looked after. I'd definitely stay at Kobe house again.
