Staff spoke some English and were super friendly. They provided parking at the cafe across the street when I told them I was renting a scooter. The hostel is a 30 minute bus ride from Ryotsu Port and is walking distance to a supermarket and the beach.

We stayed in the beautifully restored guest house and enjoyed an amazing Japanese breakfast in the main house every morning. The owners are a wonderful and incredibly generous family, who went above and beyond and even drove us to local restaurants and a great onsen. As we didn't have a car, we went on a hugely enjoyable tour of the Echigo-Tsumari Art Field with the lovely and very knowledgable Nobu. Huge thanks to Nobu and her family for looking after us and making us feel so welcome.

Echigo-Yuzawa Station is 30 km from the country house and Iwappara Ski Resort is 33 km away. It is a really spacious house in Japanese style, with all the amenities one might need. The bed and bathtub were really comfortable and a cold beer was waiting for us in the fridge. The host was so very kind to both pick us up and return us to the station the next morning.
