As a solo traveller this was a great place to get away and relax and get some alone time. Hosts were incredibly welcoming throughout my stay and made me feel very much at home. The treehouse was comfy and the balcony was great for watching the wildlife that roam around, the toilet also had a great view. The food was genuinely outstanding, also grown at the house, and they were not shy with the portions. A great little stay

The best stay ever, everyone was so lovely and accommodating, the place was beautiful beside the river and so peaceful, sitting amongst the beautiful vegetation and animals roaming the area, while experimce excellent homemade food . My recent stay at Charming Dark Lodge in River was nothing short of exceptional, marking it as the best homestay experience I have ever encountered. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality that exceeded all expectations. The highlight of our stay was undeniably our incredible host, who spared no effort in ensuring our comfort and satisfaction. From delicious lunches and dinners to delightful surprises and the most mouth-watering fish barbecue - probably the best meal I have had in the two months I have been in Sri Lanka. Beyond the culinary delights, our room was a sanctuary of comfort and style. Immaculately clean, equipped with a kitchen containing everything one could possibly need, and beautifully built and decorated. Originally intending to stay for four nights, we found ourselves captivated by the charm of Charming Dark Lodge, extending our stay to twelve nights. Departing was bittersweet, as we had grown attached to the unparalleled hospitality and the tranquil ambiance of our temporary home. A particularly memorable moment was celebrating my birthday during our stay. Our host went above and beyond to ensure it was an unforgettable occasion, adding a personal touch that truly made me feel special. Without a doubt, if I ever find myself in Sri Lanka again, Charming Dark Lodge will be my first choice for accommodation. Everything! The garden, the bungalow with it’s private space outside to chill, the common areas where people got together to drink, eat or just chat… It’s also a 1 minute walk from the beach and literally 30 seconds from awesome coffe shops and restaurants. The hosting family is kind and will help you with anything you need. I had the chance to know more about them and how midigama has evolved in the past 40 years. It was really interesting and they are the sweetest people. Also, 2 great surfing spots just a few minutes walk from the bungalows. I will surely come back! Thanks for everything!
