FAQs about hotels in Melbourne

Buzzy Jewel of Aussie Rules

A thoroughly liveable city, Melbourne has a buzzy vibe and an Aussie sense of fun. There’s always something going on, and one of its many festivals is Moomba – Australia’s largest free arts festival. Well worth a visit are the National Gallery of Victoria and the Melbourne Aquarium, whose highlight is walking through a clear tunnel as sharks swim over your head.

The city’s most recognisable landmark is Flinders Street Station, whose yellow and green façade matches the colour of the historic Melbourne trams that still run around the world’s longest tram network. Keep an eye out for the street art as you travel.

Shopping in Melbourne is fantastic. Queen Victoria Market is the largest open-air market south of the Equator, while the La Trobe Street shopping centre has over 300 stores. For food, don’t miss Little Italy - the Carlton area.

South of the Yarra River is St Kilda, home to the best beach and Albert Park, where the F1 Australian Grand Prix is held. However, this is not the city’s only sporting heritage. It’s also the home of Aussie Rules football and the MCG, a must-see for cricket fans.

Booking.com has a range of Melbourne accommodation from hotels to hostels and motels, some near Melbourne Airport.

Considering where I come from, Adelaide, Melbourne is a big city with lots to do and even more to see. I was visiting my daughter, so she knows lots of great places to eat and places to see. It was perfect. To eat, if you like Italian, Capitano was excellent; it's in Carlton, I think. For a fancy breakfast, the Higher Ground, or just a good wholesome breakfast, then Tomo's is good, too, both are in the CBD. The IMAX lives up to its name. But if you want to look around or hang out, there are multitude of 'High Streets' and the trams make everything within easy reach. I like books, and Melbourne does, too. It a match made in heaven!

I love Melbourne, the home of sports and art, and festivals.

I love Melbourne, the home of sports and art, and festivals. The atmosphere of Melbourne, the city, was a buzz. I enjoyed being out at night. The people are so friendly and very helpful. Melbourne feels like home. My favourite spots are Melbourne Central and the front of the Flinders Train Station. The Alexandra Gardens. The Yara. I enjoyed eating and shopping at the Queen Victoria Market.

Melbourne is vibrant City, full of fantastic restaurants, great transportation, and plenty of shopping options. Twilight is a favourable time of year to travel, the longer days give you much more time in the day to enjoy the sights of Melbourne. We visited Little Bourke Street, Collins Street for excellent food and service. We visited Hef Majesty’s theatre for a show which was awesome. Always a favourite is the Queen Victoria market’s. The Bourke Street Mall has the best department stores. Melbourne is magnificent, magical and marvellous.

The city cleanliness was lacking.

The city cleanliness was lacking. Rubbish bins not cleaned as was rubbish on footpath. Dogs wee on the footpath. Too many sleeping on the streets. Found the manners on crowded streets lacking especially by particular demographic. They walk and take up all the footpath and some just chuck rubbish. Lovely city some better work from the city council and enforcement would be great. Food scene and shows and shopping fabulous as were the trams and train. Keep the positives up!

We are a bit biased - we have family here - so we visit a number of times a year and tend to stay North of Melbourne CBD to be close by. We love the restaurants and small bar culture, and the trams (plus walking) get us just about everywhere we wish to go. We always visit ACME, NGV and the Queen Vic markets at a minimum and usually pick a show to see as well. We try to stay away from the Tennis and Football seasons as everything is more expensive and harder to book, unless that is what you want!

The Veriu Collingwood is in a fantastic location to explore the urban chic of Fitzroy in Melbourne. It is near tram lines to access the CBD also. Despite being an a main road our room was quiet. I really liked the layout of 2 x mini apartments with a shared entry as I was travelling with my mother, so it provided personal space but also togetherness. I love having mini kitchen's when I travel as I am a healthy eater, however the apartments are super close to excellent eateries, bakeries and coffee galore!

The location was ideal for a week-long visit to Melbourne CBD, with ease of access to public transport and enjoying the city's wonderful gardens on foot. The room was well appointed with all the required amenities, and the extras, including the roof top terrace and small gym, made the hotel great bang for buck. The staff were lovely, and the lobby bar area was an inviting space to sit and mingle, with a "happy hour" included.

The location is fantastic on Southgate and close to Melbourne CBD, perfect if you have to go to the Exhibition Centre, 10 mins walking distance while enjoying a beautiful city/river view (wear comfy shoes!). The service from the majority of the staff was fabulous. Especially the entrance security staff member, and the staff member who valeted our hire car for us. Both extremely helpful & lovely gentlemen. The hotel itself was amazing, as you would hope, such a quirky, lux, industrial feel - loved it. Also a great location, very central. Love how Melbourne CBD is very walkable for a large city.
