In retrospect, I would not recommend Minya to non-egyptians unless you are a hard-core Ancient Egypt nut, and/or the Akhenaton museum finally opens. (I went on the impression it was open but I was misinformed, and disappointed!) The sites in the region are underwhelming when time could be better spent somewhere else. Tell El Amarna is decent but you will no longer be taken to Akhenaton's tomb since it was flooded and damaged by rains a few years ago. Beni Hassan has artwork which is unique in Pharaonic Egypt but not sure its worth a dedicated trip. Expect a police escort everywhere you go: from train station to hotel, walking along corniche, taxi tour etc. Its annoying.

Good base for exploring Amarna and Beni Hasan.

Good base for exploring Amarna and Beni Hasan. Corniche is very nice. Hopefully Akhenaten Museum will reopen soon. Conservative area, so alcohol is not readily available. People are very friendly without being pushy.

There are most negative things to tell about the hotel, 1) the staff does not speak English at all, not even simple words like invoice etc. 2) there were serious difficulties installing a functional wifi in my hotel room 3) the card payment terminal/system does not work 4) the room was unconfortable 5) except for us, the hotel was empty - the overall atmosphere in the hotel was depressing
