The hotel is ideally situated in the beautiful Keswick area, approximately a five-minute drive from the town centre. We booked seven rooms for 15 guests; the rooms were of comfortable size, breakfast was excellent, and the property itself was charming. It was a pleasant and memorable stay for all 15 of us. We would gladly return and recommend this property to others.

Breakfast - Was included to the price quoted. Was not a huge spread but very filling and a nice breakfast with cooked and continental food items. Dinner - The menu was really nice and tasty. The dishes are huge and the prices really value the dish size. Room - very tidy and as posted on the photos.

We loved the character of the old building that has been precisely renovated to the period. No money was spared on making this property a luxurious stay for it's guests. The owners were very friendly and also a chef serving amazing dinners and breakfasts each day.

An old farmhouse which has been sympathetically converted to a hotel whilst retaining alot of the original features. Stunning views across the valley to Sale Fell, which is a lovely circular climb that you can do from the hotel, via St Margarets Church. Amazing views from the top. Good leisure facilities with pool, jacuzzi, sauna and gym. In fact the gym has alot more equipment than on the photos. Excellent food, both breakfast and evening using high quality ingredients. VERY friendly and enthusiatic staff, going the extra mile, nothing too much trouble. Sadly wasn't travelling with our dog this time but very dog friendly. Will definitely be staying again, highly recommended and good value.

Bassenthwaite Lake is a quiet mostly forgotten part of the lakes but offers a good place to stay away from the hustle and bustle of nearby Keswick. It offers easy parking, good quality and good value accommodation and some great pubs and restaurants.

Beautiful part of Cumbria.

Beautiful part of Cumbria. If you are nervous of very narrow roads think twice of places like Buttermere and Loweswater...if you are Ok then that also is a lovely area to explore but do not expect lots of shops etc but you will find a warm welcome from local farm shops/cafes and the like. Expect to pay for loos and if you are a NT member you are laughing otherwise carry change and/or your card for car parking. On the narrow roads, the things that look like laybys are in fact passing places and should you meet a bus or tractor at one of these places then you will appreciate how vital they are. Bassenthwaite Lake is centrally positioned for both Keswick/ Grasmere and Ambleside and the lovely Cumbrian Coast. What you might not realise is that there is a lovely drive across to Carlise (the Border city) going through the lovely Caldbeck burial place for John Peel. An easy ride for a different day out. Bassenthwaite Lake has several eating places and we used The Pheasant Inn but there are several others nearby including the old Bassenthwaite Lake train station. Workington, Whitehaven and Maryport are working towns with their own carbuncles and beautiful old buildings. Whitehaven has a lovely harbour and a super bookshop. Workington has a selection of shops and Maryport has a lovely harbour too tho' very different to Whitehaven but the coast os wonderful. I recomend leaving your car at Maryport and taking the train down the coast to Barrow in Furness. If you like to explore...get the feel of a place and not just eat ice cream and mingle with crowds this is the quieter part of Cumbria....my birth county so I admit to being just a little biased!!

Bassenthwaite Lake is one of the less touristy areas.

Bassenthwaite Lake is one of the less touristy areas. It is very natural and beautiful. There are water sports available but there doesn’t seem to be a good walking path around the lake. There are eateries either walkable from the accommodation or within a couple of miles.
