The Glory of Medieval England
Lincoln was a powerhouse of medieval England and retains amazing monuments from that period. In the Uphill district is the castle built for William the Conqueror. Inside its an original copy of the Magna Carta and its ramparts offer fabulous city views. Across the cobbled square which houses the large Christmas market is huge Lincoln Cathedral whose unusual façade features 2 tall towers, while another at its centre overlooks the Bishop’s Palace.
Connecting the cathedral quarter with the Downhill district is aptly named Steep Hill, a narrow street lined with unique shops and historic buildings including the Jew’s House. Even older are the Roman Newport Arch, Mint Wall and the well on Bailgate.
This road slopes down to meet the River Witham at High Bridge, a stone-arched structure with a half-timbered building atop that is the oldest of its kind in England. Lincoln boat trips depart from the Brayford Pool just west.
Another monument is the 18th-century Ellis Mill, opposite the Museum of Lincolnshire Life. The Collection combines an archaeology museum and art gallery, while The Lawn has a conference centre and the Joseph Banks Conservatory, displaying artefacts he brought back from adventures with Captain Cook.

I regularly go to Lincoln to visit family and stay for a few days when I can. Some parts of the old town area are difficult to access due to cobblestones and narrow pavements with mobility aids. The cathedral is well worth a visit. Shops and restaurants are plentiful.Kathleen - 8.0Scored 8.0

Lincoln is two towns, a lower one which is like many towns in England and an upper town, which is special. At the centre is a square across which the cathedral and castle face one another. The cathedral is so large and impressive that it dominates everything else

Great venue for a weekend away - you can walk everywhere (steep slope up to the Castle andCathedral). The Cathedral is stunning and the Castle worth the trip on it's own. The £16 ticket seemed a lot, but it was well worth it. A guided tour outside, a walk with audio set around the castle walls, a visit to the old prison and, to cap it all, to see the Magna Carta (one of the four existing copies in existence). Lincoln is an underrated city - it has an amazing Cathedral...
Lincoln is an underrated city - it has an amazing Cathedral and Castle, which are well worth a visit. Steep Hill is only for the fit, but worth it if you can. Lovely small shops and cafés line the route, so you can have a break if you wish. Also, you can visit free of charge art galleries like the Usher Gallery (Turner paintings). The people of Lincolnshire are very friendly and this is why I live here!

Good Things: Staff were very nice and helpful. Location was great, close to lots of places. Bad Things: No slippers in room even though I asked for them. Breakfast was not good, not enough food. Bathroom and toilet were too small The staff were really friendly, but there were some problems too. I asked for slippers but never got them. The breakfast did not have much choice. And the bathroom felt cramped because it was so tiny. The location was convenient at least, making it easy to walk around. Overall an okay stay, but could have been better if the issues with amenities were fixedErhan

The accommodation they provided was large and very well located (Right next to the Cathedral and Lincoln Castle). It would suit a large group but the limitation of a single bathroom needs to be taken in to account when booking. Has a great lounge area and kitchen with a large (could seat 10 + people easily) dining table. Great for parties (If the accommodation allows it).

The building and amenities are beautiful and cosy. I personally really like that a delicious croissant breakfast is delivered to the room and that there is milk, orange juice and water in the fridge. We love it’s waterfront location close to the bars, restaurants and shops of the city centre. When visiting, we often go to the cinema which is just a few minutes walk from the hotel The lovely old town is a short but challenging walk away. We’ve usually managed to get a space in the hotel car park. Decent breakfast and loved the warm cookies on check in.
