FAQs about hotels in Newcastle upon Tyne

The Spirit of the North

A former Industrial Revolution hub, Newcastle has reinvented itself into a vibrant, forward-thinking city. Although no longer brewed here, Newcastle Brown Ale, or Newkie Brown, is synonymous with the city, so it’s no surprise that the nightlife is fantastic.

From the O2 Academy to the Sage Music Centre, the Newcastle music venues are among the best in England. The city also has a thriving arts scene, including The Biscuit Factory – Britain’s largest original art store.

Equally as good is the Newcastle shopping. The Central Arcade is in an attractive Victorian building, and across the River Tyne in Gateshead is the Metro Centre, Europe’s largest shopping and leisure complex. Indeed, these 2 cities have a healthy rivalry that plays out in sport, architecture and, sometimes, the bizarre.

Gateshead boasts the Angel of The North, a huge statue that is already its most recognised (and controversial) symbol. While in Newcastle the Vampire Rabbit sits above a door near St Nicholas’ Cathedral. Newcastle United Football Club has the most prestigious record, but Gateshead Stadium has seen many a star compete at its international athletics meets.

To the west of the city are some remains of Hadrian’s Wall and further north is Newcastle Airport. See Booking.com for a range of accommodation all over this happening city.

we stayed in a riverside hotel where a five minute walk away was a vibrant night scene with plenty of bars and restaurants and lots of people enjoying the night life. very pretty millennium foot bridge lit up at night and a great view of the Tyne bridge. Not sure what i was expecting when i turned up but the regeneration of the river side makes Newcastle a great short break choice.

I love Newcastle and always have.

I love Newcastle and always have. It is such a warm, friendly and welcoming city We ate dinner at rudy’s pizzeria which was excellent and breakfast at Tiny Tiny which was absolutely top notch. We loved the fact that we could walk everywhere, from the quayside to town, to uni.

To all you unfit people out there, just be aware that there is a climb into the main shopping/social area of Newcastle (Grey street/rd),lovely coming down it,but he'll on your legs going up the first couple of times. Lovely riverside market on Sundays that we didn't know about, food stalls from all over the world there, plus lovely little independent craft stalls. Plenty to do in town if bad weather head to the indoor food/shopping area called Eldon square, lots of shops and food retailers all under one roof, plenty of choice for everyone.

Really enjoyed that you could walk everywhere easily.

Really enjoyed that you could walk everywhere easily. Plenty of nice restaurants for an evening meal, shops were good. A classic tour around St. James Park was well worth the visit, very enjoyable. Went on the Metro to the coastal town of Tynemouth, again, well worth a visit. We also went to the theatre and saw a fabulous show. Would highly recommend Newcastle for a mid week break.

Nice city to get around and lots to see and do in it, lots of walking involved in doing this. Ate in Pleased to meet you and then went to see the tumbling paddies play at Digital, Good day and night. Walked along the quayside on sunday at the markets. Lovely time with friends.

The town centre is very compact so many of the main attractions are in easy walking distance. We came for the Mercury Awards 2025 and had a great evening with a lovely, good natured local audience. I can also recommend the Newcastle City Guide Walking Tour https://newcastlegateshead.com/newcastle-city-guides

I spent a couple of nights in Newcastle to explore the city . Hotel was great , helpful reception staff , comfy bed , fast Wi-Fi , efficient air con which was appreciated as it was unusually hot in Newcastle. Hotel very well located , few minutes walk to the city centre . Plenty of car parking available , seemed pretty secure. Never made it to breakfast, so can’t comment on its quality. Excellent hotel , more than happy to stay again

The location was a 5-minute walk from Metro station, which is only 3 or 4 stops away from Newcastle City Centre. There are plenty of coffee shops and bakery's around along with a Tesco express. For the price for 2 nights was nearly €100 cheaper than anywhere else I could find. Simple hotel, a little outdated but great value for money 👍🏻

Renovated in 2021, modern and fresh. On direct bus route to Newcastle City Centre - we chose this hotel so we didn't have to navigate town and spend on car parking. Breakfast buffet is good and the breakfast menu is wide-ranging, even including kedgeree.

Great little hotel. Lots of corridors and stairs. Good facilities for a short or long stay. A mile or so from Newcastle city centre (uphill on the way back!), but good transport
