Besides having time with an old friend who lives in Steyning...
Besides having time with an old friend who lives in Steyning, I especially enjoyed walking up onto the Downs (via the Upper Horseshoe trail) and admiring the wonderful view of the Downs and the sea and the Weald of Sussex. I was impressed by the Community Orchard and the conservation scheme to re-establish species-rich chalk grassland. I made good use of the buses - would have been stranded without them! I enjoyed a brief visit to the parish church and was sorry not to have more time to have a good look round the museum. Steyning is nice, but this hotel is actually in Bramber.
Steyning is nice, but this hotel is actually in Bramber. Bramber is about 20 mins walk from Steyning. Bramber is a lovely village with 2 pubs,a pharmacy and a newsagent/general store. The castle remains are right opposite the hotel. There is access to the river Adur from the village. Steyning itself a short drive from our hotel. We visited the Parish Church , and the Museum both are worth some time spent. The High street was very crowded, as there was a market open in main car park. Mae, Steve & all the staff at The Crown Inn Hotel offer excellent service & are very friendly. Great food with a good selection Unexpected bonus to our visit was venue had a Abba tribute night which was great fun, pub was packed & people up dancing . These are held the last Friday of the month. Accommodation was a bit tired & dated but was clean & had everything needed for a short stay, Neighbourhood is quiet but right on South Down trail so busy with walkers & bike riders. I only used the hotel as I only wanted an overnight stay. I had a 4hr drive to attend a reunion in Brighton, and a similar distance to drive the following day. As it could be a late finish on a Sunday evening, we looked for a nice place to stay. This was perfect. Convenient location, very friendly and helpful host, clean room with very comfortable bed (hurrah) and a delicious breakfast. We would choose to stay here again, when in this part of West Sussex. Absolutely loved it! It's a great size and has great facilities: the kitchen had everything we needed and much more besides. The bed was huge and extremely comfy. We also really liked Steyning.
