The fact that we stayed beside the grounds of the Battle of Bannockburn was fantastic, great history, unfortunately the visitor centre was closed during our stay. We were there for the history and were not disappointed, taking in the Stirling Castle, Wallace Monument, Battle of Bannockburn, The Kelpies, and the Falkirk Wheel. Stirling is a beautiful historic town with many fun sites to see. I needed more time to see them all. Stirling Castle should have a shuttle service bringing people up to the castle, Very limited parking and not conducive if you have a person with walking issues. Plan ahead. We only had half a day in Stirling and could have stayed much longer. Everyone in my family enjoyed the castle very much. My children actually asked to extend the time we had budgeted to see the castle, which is the first place this happened. Sterling is a fantastic place for a couple of days.
Sterling is a fantastic place for a couple of days. The castle is very impressive. They have free guided tours on the hour that are well worth the time invested. Along with the castle finding the Old Bridge, the Wallace Monument and out to Bannockburn for a different view. Holy Rude Church and Cemetery are quite fascinating. A day trip to Falkirk to see the Kelpies and the Forth Bridges is a must if you have an engineer along with you. The castle is close by although it is a long upward slog but that is inevitable. I took a bus to both Bannock Burn Centre and also to The Wallace Monument. Both easy to do. The single room was very close to reception and no stairs to climb. The bed was very comfortable. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The leisure suit was excellent, and the gym had pretty much everything you could want. Our room was large and all the usual stuff was supplied plus a small table and chairs. It's definitely one of the biggest hotel rooms I've stayed in.
