The Stonehouse Hotel was a sight for sore eyes, (a pleasant surprise) after walking 5 1/2 hours on the Costwold Way. We loved the hotel, the grounds and our room. We also found the staff, specifically the young man checking us in (sorry didn't catch his name), a waitress named Asuka, and the bartender Yaughtski. Hopefully we spelled that right. Lol. Yaughtski without a doubt made our stay welcoming and fun.

Many thanks to the staff. I had a late arrival at 1 am. I was only staying one night. I was expected and welcomed. I caused a lot of trouble for the workers but they were very helpful. I was 30 mins late checking out, left my stuff until 6 pm, couldn't use Uber, they helped me get a local taxi, gave me free water. Despite a very difficult day for my family, the staff helped me through it. Hotel have great pub! Very tasty, cosy and aytentic. The hotel has a beautiful view, а children's playground, a beautiful forest and colourful streets for walking. Thank you.

Going into Stroud is not worth all the fuss and hassle.

Going into Stroud is not worth all the fuss and hassle. The multiple roundabouts pose a challenge to even seasoned drivers. The Five Valleys shopping centre is on multiple levels. I entered at the top level and it was a guessing game to find my way out if this three dimensional maze. I eventually zig-zagged my way down to the ground floor and out, wondering where the signs were. It was similarly a challenge to find Tesco Extra. On the positive side, Rodborough Common affords very beautiful views.

Stroud is a lovely town in the Cotswolds with lots of character. There is plenty of parking in various locations. Some is even free after 2pm, eg. near Waitrose. There are plenty of places to eat and drink in the town and in the locality. For real ales try The Stroud Brewery. There are frequent concerts at the Subscription Rooms which are right in the centre of town with some great bands, etc.

Stroud is a town with plenty of character.

Stroud is a town with plenty of character. There are many independent shops and alternative lifestyles are welcome. There are many coffee shops and restaurants. We especially enjoyed The Curio restaurant, King St, Woodruffs coffee shop and Rajat Indian restaurant. We walked along the canal to Stroud Brewery which has a good bar and restaurant. That was an easy walk. We walked up Swifts Hill, Slad Valley and had a drink in the Woolpack, not so easy but very enjoyable. This is a must for fans of Laurie Lee's books.

Stroud was not the focus of our trip, but since you ask I'd say that its former condition was probably rather better than its current condition. It doesn't do well when compared with Cirencester which really is a town worth visiting. Stroud is pleasant enough and good for shopping. Traffic is reasonable

The Clothiers is just a 5 minute walk into Stroud and close to the railway station, Cheltenham and Gloucester are within easy reach for eating out and shopping. Great canal walks in both directions and if you're feeling fit you can get to Stroud Brewery just 45 mins or so along the canal from the town. The canal museum, sounds quite boring but the volunteer staff there are brilliant and have a wealth of knowledge about local walks and the history of the area.

Great hotel in an excellent location with stunning views. Plenty of trails to follow if you want to explore the area on foot (and see the cows!) and loads to see and do in neighbouring towns. All of the staff were really friendly and were very helpful. We had a minor issue with the plug in the bath when we arrived but this was fixed within a few hours of us notifying the front desk.
