We enjoyed everything about this magical place. The amazing gardens, the smell of jasmin. The beauty and elegance of every room. The stunning colection of statues of Lions, we ended up finding one for us in Glastonbury to hold as a precius memory of our stay at Beryl. The breakfast and the afternoon tea and the warm presence of the family that lives there and takes care of the house and its gests. Beryl is a wonderful place, we felt as we had been invited to the crowning if the King that took place while we were staying there.

A quiet, but very quaint place.

A quiet, but very quaint place. Lots of lovely shops, particularly the art shop next to the hotel. The cathedral is magnificent, and well worth a visit, and the walk alongside the river is very picturesque. I will definitely visit again some time.

WE were apprehensive about parking on a busy market day but actually found it easy to park in a car park close to the centre. The cathedral, Bishop's Palace, the High Street and the market are all convenient and a must on any agenda.

I used to live in Wells so I am biased.

I used to live in Wells so I am biased. It is a small city with a big heart. Every tiny street, every archway, every corner you turn brings you another delight for the eyes. It has high street shops, and artisanal crafts. Eateries and pubs to cater for many tastes. And whether you are driving or using public transport, there are so many historical places to see in Wells and the surrounding countryside. And if you are a fan of the ”Hot Fuzz” film, you can recognise locations. It is easy to walk anywhere, and even easier to hop on a bus to Glastonbury for a totally different vibe. Promise yourself you will visit Wells. Your future self will love you for it. 😁🌻🐝

Wells is a lovely place to visit and steeped in history.

Wells is a lovely place to visit and steeped in history. The Cathedral is the focal point but I thought the admission fee was too high compared to other cathedrals. The city has ambassadors during the summer to assist tourists. There are lots of nice food outlets and shops. Wells is close to other attractions in Somerset; Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole, Glastonbury etc.

The city of Wells is a lovely place to visit.

The city of Wells is a lovely place to visit. Three days and we still could have spent more time there. There is a huge market 2 times a week, Thurs. and Sat., with crafts, foods, flowers and vegetables. The Cathedral, Bishops palace and palace gardens are wonderful places to visit. Do take the tour. We heard evensong one evening which was lovely. St Cuthbert's church is a lovely place too and they have regular concerts there as well. The Cheddar Gorge and Cheese place was a major tourist trap. Skip it because you can get great chess at the market! The Crown was a great pub for both food and cider, which is famous in the area. And if you are a standing stone freak there are standing stones out near Westbury-sub-Mendip. AND the people are so friendly!! Wells is a great place to go and we plan to go back!

An excellent 3 night stay while visiting family and surrounding areas. I arrived a little early but was readily checked in - luggage collected for me and a room upgrade too which was wonderful. Such a charming and characterful hotel with all amenities and a lovely helpful and friendly staff. My room was extremely comfortable with plenty of space to spread out and unwind. A convenient location right in the middle of Wells with its cathedral and bishops palace - some lovely little shops and I happened to land on market day too!

This hotel is a jewel. Located in the heart of Wells, overlooking the market, the cathedral, and the gate to the Bishop's palace, it is one of the nicest historical places we have stayed. Image to stay in a room that has been a hotel room for almost 600 years. The room was very nice with a seat in the window. There was limited free parking at the back of the hotel. Breakfast was great.

The hotel was clean and comfortable with good size room and plenty pillows. It was so close to Glastonbury, Wells, Cheddar Gorge and Wookey hole. The food was excellent, especially steak night. Breakfast was lovely with loads of choice and the bar area was quiet for sitting in after a busy day.
