Everyone at The Grand helped to make our wedding anniversary weekend fabulous.
Starting with a cheerful welcome from the concierge and valet parking driver after a long and delayed journey, a very smooth check in with a surprise anniversary treat from the lovely reception team, much needed treatments from the ladies in the spa after 5 hours in the car! The highlight was our anniversary dinner at the hotel’s Legacy fine dining restaurant, hosted by Derek, who took us through our 8 course tasting menu and wine flight journey brilliantly, what a fountain of knowledge he is! A huge thanks to Derek and the restaurant team who looked after us and the very creative and talented chefs, absolutely incredible.
Our accommodation was fantastic, spacious with views across the city walls, the comfiest bed and everything you could want for a relaxing break.
Our last night ended with a few cocktails and excellent acoustic music from the live entertainment in the 1906 bar. Breakfast was amazing on our final morning. Checking out was smooth, friendly and helpful.
York is a beautiful city but without doubt, the staff at The Grand really made this an unforgettable stay for us. Thank you!

Beautiful location, a little confused that my room was... in the carpark, so not much of a view as I couldn't really have the curtains open. But I wasn't really that fussed once I was over that. Room was beautiful and clean, bath lovely a deep so could have a proper soak. Lots of nice little touches. I would book here again.

England Through The Ages
Although abounding in reminders of the past, York is very much a city for the here and now, with excellent shops, bars and restaurants, many along the River Ouse. Surrounding it are the medieval city walls – the longest and best preserved in England – and many of the gates that once allowed access to the city.
Walk the walls for wonderful views towards the city and towering York Minster. Standing proud on a hill, this cavernous church is the seat of the Archbishop of York, the 2nd highest position in the Church of England.
A little south is The Shambles, a narrow street with medieval buildings that now house quaint shops. Going further back in time is the Jorvik Centre, a fascinating museum showcasing the city’s Viking remains. You can even have a go at archaeology yourself at the DIG excavation pits, with replica finds from York’s Roman, Viking, medieval and Victorian eras.
Other York attractions include the National Railway Museum, home to the Flying Scotsman and Mallard trains. Around 30 minutes’ drive away is Castle Howard, a stately home with over 1000 acres of grounds.
Leeds-Bradford Airport is the nearest airport, and there is a great range of hotels, B&Bs and guest houses in York and the outskirts available on Booking.com.

City full of history and amazing stories of the past including the Jorvik vikings and ghosts 👻
There are lots of tours and all I’ve been on have been interesting and funny too.
Absolute vast amount of places to eat and drink.
Various street artists were in the city and were an absolute pleasure to watch.
You will never be bored and will always leave wanting more.
York is definitely my happy place and I already can’t wait to be back.

The peaceful Museum gardens; Bettys classy cafe; the Shambles and the Jorvik museum; the cathedral; All worth a visit. A word of caution - this old city centre is a mix of paving slabs, cobble streets and block paving with uneven placement which could cause you to trip. There are many places to eat and drink and there are also uber expensive jewellery shops as well as the usual everyday shopping areas. If you feel energetic walk along the remains of the old city walls for great views.

An AMAZING place.
An AMAZING place. So compact and easy to get around, very historic, take a river cruise and dont miss out on the FREE railway museum, well worth a visit. Possibly stay away from the river area for food and drinks, they appear to be much higher priced. Great shops, The Shambles is a wonderful story of how York used to be. The cat walk/track and visit all the old pubs off the beaten track down the little alleyways.. York Minster a MUST..
On arrival, we were offered complimentary drinks, and the reception staff were really friendly and helpful. The lady behind reception noticed I am heavily pregnant and kindly offered us a more accessible room. The room was clean and cosy, with plenty of tea and coffee and toiletries in the room. The location is fantastic for visiting York City centre. Once you're down the alleyway to the hotel and off the main street, you can't really hear any street noise. Could not fault the staff. They were so welcoming! Overall, a great find!
There is unfortunately not much to like about this Hotel other than its location which was a short walk to old part of York.
We had an horrendous drive from Edinburgh to York and were really looking forward to checking into our hotel, having a nice relaxing bath and then going out for dinner - but our room (Superior Queen Room) did not have the bathtub we wanted.
The breakfast buffet was nice - there was a good selection and the serving staff seemed friendly.
Parking is available at the hotel but costs another 15 quid.
Apartment is as described by Ad - Owner interaction during stay and booking process spot on , very helpful chap - all info to hand - It isn't a brand new apartment , yet its nice and comfy and very clean - Beds are good - the owner goes out of his way to assist - This is a good clean , convenient place to stay in York - Usually come up to York 3-4 times in the year for the horses so i have stayed in a fair few hotels/apartments in the area, from 3 Star to 5 star - Would i stay here again ? - Yes , without hesitation .
We chose this hotel because of the good reviews and location and on site parking, unfortunately the only room available was a twin, best nights sleep I've had since we were married, the beds were so comfortable, room was a decent size en suite with everything you needed, even a fridge and small freezer compartment. And a fan. Really nice cooked breakfast in the morning. 10 min walk to the Minster and city centre. Staff were really welcoming and helpful, we will definitely book here again next time we come to York.
We started travelling very early in the morning. By the time we arrived at the hotel, we were exhausted and it was still too early to check in. The gentleman at the reception was very kind to find us a room to rest at no extra charge, we really appreciated especially travelling with our very young daughter. The location was good, in a quiet area, a short drive to York city centre. Plenty of choices for breakfast, room was spacious, very comfy beds, heat was very good for an early winter trip.
Room: Received an upgrade! Comfortable, clean and not noisy,
Location: Beside the Clifford Tower. Easy walking distance to most of the York attractions.
Breakfast: Full selection available including, full English, cold meats and cheese, scones, muffins etc.
Parking: Valet parking is available on site. There is also a Pay and Display public site opposite the hotel.
Best thing was the hotel's location...is five minutes from the train station, ten from the Shambles, YorkMinister and Old City. Rooms were sufficient size, with view of old architecture from them. Front reception staff were wonderful. Check-in and checkout were both quick. We were allowed to store luggage there for several hours on either side of our reservation.
We had a very nice bright room. It was warm and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was very good. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel has lovely gardens to the front. Lots of outdoor seating for good weather. A very good bar and lounges. A bus runs into York from the main road 2 mins walk from hotel. Also easily walkable into York centre.
Hotel location was excellent, looked out onto York City walls and we could also see York Minster. A very short walk into the city centre. The breakfast was superb, very tasty it’s been a long time since I’ve enjoyed breakfast in a hotel so much. Staff were brilliant also.
The room and location were fantastic. Staff were exceptionally helpful. The attached pub was a wonderful place to relax. Although not critical to the stay, the decorating for the hotel and rooms was entertaining. Next time in York, I will definitely book here.
Room was large and spacious. Nice large bed and shower. We were celebrating my birthday and the hotel staff had left some Prosecco and treats for me which was lovely and very much appreciated. Location was 10 minutes walk from the centre of York so ideal.
Hotel is in excellent location 5 mins from Minster itself and centre of York. Room was large with king size bed. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent with many choices of cooked items which were cooked to order.
It was a beautiful hotel, the room finish was immaculate and was very cosy. The location was also great to walk through the gardens to reach the centre of York. Would definitely stay here again!
Great location for visiting the centre of York.Bus stop close to hotel to take you in to city centre. Good parking on site. Great choice at breakfast. Staff helpful and friendly. Rooms clean.
all the staff were very friendly.
The room was very clean and a comfortable bed.
Breakfast and other meals were freshly cooked.
Hotel location is great - close to York town center.
The hotel is stunning the location is perfect for getting into York city centre and the shambles. The hotel had a gorgeous teepee tent in the gardens with drinks and music.
Hotel Indigo is always modern and clean, same for the hotel we stayed in York. Nice staff that answered your needs immediately. Easy to access to the main attractons.
