The parking by the fall is expensive at no reason. It offers no services, like toilets. If the weather is ok and you like walking, there is a free spot closer to the city, 1mile or 1500m, with a trail to the fall. Grundarfjordur is a convenient town for exploring the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. It has a good grocery store and two excellent cafes for coffee & treats. A little food truck is open until the end of August. The town/village itself is really quite sweet.
The town/village itself is really quite sweet. We didn't spend much time there, but we did drive in to use the grocery store and walk around a bit. Kirkjufell Mountain is really quite stunning and one of the most recognizable Icelandic landmarks. You can just sit and look at it all day. For such a small town, Grundarfjordur is packed with loads of hotels, guesthouses, shops and places to eat. Highly recommend if you're in the area.Guest review byKookie72Canada - 8.0

This small mountain gets a lot of positive press and yes, it's kind of cool but really not all that great. We were trying to find it the last time we were here (three years ago) and drove right past it. There is a parking lot on the left as you are leaving town and you need to park and get out for the mountain to "look" like it looks in the pictures you see everywhere- with the waterfalls, etc. There are numerous sights around Iceland that make this one look like a joke. Still...stopping for 5 minutes to get a picture or two will be worth it but you won't look back on this one and remember how awesome it was.Guest review byDougUnited States

There are no staff on duty, and emails, messages and listed phone number are not contactable at all. It literally feels like a ghost hotel. Pipes are choked, and breakfasts are not even served, although this has been paid for. The corridor is not lit up at all too. Our room was big and sunny and very clean. The free voucher for coffees at Valeria coffee roasters was the icing on the cake as this columbian owned cafe had the best coffee in Iceland!
