An Italian Masterpiece

Best-known for the stunning Duomo, Florence is full of amazing buildings and its historic center. The Ponte Vecchio, a 14th-century bridge holding a multitude of shops on its edges is a stunning example and provides a truly unforgettable view.

Dig into more of the city’s historical past at the Basilica of Santa Croce, a Franciscan church full of great artwork and the burial place of Italian greats: Michelangelo and Galileo. The Uffizi Gallery is one of the world’s finest art museums and the Pitti Palace is not far behind.

For great dining, the Santa Croce district has countless options and the unique lampredotto is Florentine fast-food with a 1000-year old history. Many consider the local gelato, Italian ice-cream, to be the best in the world.

The beauty and flavours of Florence are just a 15-minute train ride from the Amerigo Vespucci International Airport. Whether you’re looking for a room with a view at a cosy B&B, a luxury hotel or an intimate guesthouse, Booking.com has the perfect accommodation for your Florence adventure.

We had great, warm weather in early November and the crowds were much smaller than I remember from a July visit about a decade ago, so accessing the museums and restaurants was much easier. Florence is a cultural must-see for anyone interested in European history.

We found Florence in November to be very nice.

We found Florence in November to be very nice. Less tourist, shops still open. Loved the streets at night, they are all lit up and not threatening- actually welcoming. The bridges are very pretty, especially at night. So many cathedrals. So many restaurants. So much wine. We had a nice time. Florence is not too big and not too small. We also found that the city had a good handle on the trash and cleaning. If you get up early, you can see the people of Florence polishing and cleaning storefront windows and handles. They take great pride in the city

Liked every aspect of it, the buildings, the history, the Art, the food, the wonderful, friendly courteous Italians. Some deterrents need to be put in place to curb the hustlers around the Duomo. Very 'in your face', not pleasant.

I stayed one day.

I stayed one day. We were concerned about the driving because my italian colleagues said it was dangerous. The roads are cat, but the drivers are way better than current irish drivers. Definitely worth talking a car from Pisa staying there a day, staying in Florence for a day and then going on to other locations in the countryside. Probably worth getting full cover on car, because you could easily have an issue with tyres. Just don't eat in the main squares. The food is not as good as away from the centre, and not as cheap. It is a beautiful place, and walking to the top of the park is really worth it. Also, Conad is great supermarket for a cheap lunch to pack for going to the park. Great grapes, cheese, crackers and prosciutto amongst other meats.

The city centre is very touristy.

The city centre is very touristy. We saw the main Church with sunning exteriors, a few gardens and viewpoints. It can get warm even in November so make sure to pack a pair of sunglasses and a cap/hat. We used to city busses to commute and bought tickets on their app (at bus). Vegan options are few considering it is a big city (I guess this is because the city is famous for its meat). Vegan gelato is available but the portion sizes are absymal in fully vegan cafes, so get yours form the shops that serve regular gelato as well (dark chocolate and fruit sorbets are usually always vegan).

The last time I was in Florence was 50 years ago - It has lost some of it's quaintness and it has become very commercialize. I was there on a stop over to Tuscany which still has maintained it's charm.

Everything is excellent! The staff is really friendly and helpful. The deco and ambience is classic. The breakfast is well-prepared. The location is great. I stayed for 3 nights. Although I asked to change the room the last night because there's a bit noise in the morning, they still change for me. It's the best hotel experience I had in my 2-week-trip in Italy!!

Lovely hotel, with friendly very engaged staff. The feel was very true to Tuscan Italy, the food in the restaurant was excellent, and the wines too. We loved relaxing by the pool too, which was a nice relief from the heat of central Florence, which was only 15 minutes away.
