Lovely town with great resturants and the Archaeological site of Pompeii , plus 3 train stations which allowed travel to Herculaneum, Sorrento, Naples and Salerno and the Amalfi Coast. A great central location. Download the App for the Pompeii site, with map, info and audio guides; so very easy for DIY tourists. The buses to Mt Vesuvius a little bit confused. Fare varies but not by a significant amount. Pompei archeological park was amazing. I was unprepared for the sheer scale of the city. I think you need a minimum of 2 days to really explore the ruins alone. Modern Pompei I did not like. It is noisy and there is nothing pleasant at all.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

the Pompeii ruins and its history was amazing added knowledge that i was not aware of. The displays were awesome and able to visualize how not see how civilization perished but also how it survived from its destruction. recommend taking a tour guide vs self walk ,unless ONE is an Historian and knowledgeable of its history in the period of civilization. The nearby eating area a little pricy...but if you have car ,try to go Centro and prices are more moderate. very busy spot ....and don't know when it is best to visit.Guest review bycarloCanada - 10.0
Transport links, especially the trains were cheap and easy...
Transport links, especially the trains were cheap and easy to find and allowed easy travel to Salerno, Sorrento and Herculaneum. Pompeii archeological site was only a 10 minute walk from our B&B and was a great experience. The train to Salerno was only €2.50 and a short walk took you to the harbour where we took a boat trip to Amalfi, Positano and Sorrento.
