Hon-Hachinohe has far more to offer than we could fit into our three-day visit—we truly wished we had stayed longer. The Korekawa Jomon Archaeological Museum was exceptional, offering a fascinating look at the area's ancient past. The Tanesashi Coast was another highlight, with its beautiful and easy-to-navigate hiking trails. In the center of town, we explored the Hachinohe Portal Museum, known as ‘Hacchi’—a six-floor space that blends cultural center, artist studios, and local exhibits. Very nice coastal city with interesting fish markets (where you can make your own seafood rice bowl with fresh local catch or rent a dove to grill shell fish, and buy local goods) and beautiful coastal trail. And there is a direct bus to the Lake Towada and Oriase Trail though it's difficult to book the bus tickets on line unless you know how to type your name in Japanese. During rain I think 1 day is enough time to see and experience most things. I can imagine in better weather the beaches and coastline can be interesting. There was not a lot to do in the city itself, and trains don't run so often. It is probably advisable to rent a car. Food/Restaurant choices are limited in hon-hachinohe area. Mostly all izakayas and lots of seafood. It's a great place if you like bar-hopping/standing bars/drinking culture.
