3 minute walk from Gora station, and only 10 or 15 in the other direction to the Open Air Museum. Amazing location, beautiful facility. The lounges were cozy and smart and well-designed, and the free snacks and drinks were a great perk. Also the breakfasts and dinners were excellent -- buffets with a wide and very tasty variety of choices, for food and drink. I didn't get a chance to try the public onsen, but i was lucky enough to get some time in the private onsens each day, and they were incredible. So were the free ice pops and fruit water afterwards! And the beautiful patio with the footbath that lights up at night. Really nice hotel/experience.

Loved our stay here! It had everything we needed and more: • Large room with 2 comfortable double beds • Projector, with Netflix, Prime etc. (note you’ll have to sign in if you have an account) • Kitchenette • washing machine/dryer • Dining room • Balcony with foot spa • And the best bits, Sauna and Private indoor onsen bath in the room (with Mountain View - not Mt Fuji but it was still nice being surrounded by greenery after our city trips) They even provided us with some snacks and drinks in the fridge which was a lovely touch! We got the J bus from Odawara (I think it said approx 30 mins but with traffic took a bit longer!) The bus stop pretty much stops 100m from the hotel. There’s a bus stop across the road that takes you back towards Hakone/Odawara. There’s Kowakudani Station 5 mins walk from the hotel (which will take you to Hakone and Odawara too) We recommend going to Hakone Picnic, Taiwanese restaurant for food. The food and service was great, and it had incredible views of the mountain, again 5 mins walk from the hotel. A little further up the hill maybe another 5 mins is a 7 eleven. Despite not having a reception, check in was fairly straightforward (this can be done in your room) and queries were quickly answered and resolved through a FaceTime call (using their iPad). Note: details for access and your room is provided prior to your stay via email/booking.com messages. I’d definitely stay in a Rakuten hotel again!

The facilities here were amazing. I have stayed at ultra luxury hotels in Kyoto and even if I compare it to those places, it was superb. The room was very large and my partner and I could open both our suitcases at the same time. They gave us a welcome drink in the form of a house made juice bottle - it was so refreshing and delicious. Very close to a nearby Japanese convenience store which made meals and cash out very easy. Very close to a bus stop - 2 minutes walk! Very close to delicious restaurants!

Everything was beautifully presented, the dinner was definitely a highlight, and the views, quiet surroundings, and absolutely delightful library was top notch. I could have spent many more days reading and soaking in the serenity! The thoughtfulness of the dinner and breakfast, we were provided the story of each dish, made it greatly more enjoyable.

Exceptional stay in Hakone This place is truly exceptional. The house is perfectly located on a hillside surrounded by nature — peaceful and incredibly relaxing. My room had a beautiful view of the forest; I felt completely immersed in it. I could hear the birds singing every morning — it was magical. I also had my meals on site, and the food was absolutely delicious. The dining area opens up to the outdoors, offering breathtaking views while you eat. The on-site baths are fantastic — everything is thoughtfully designed, and the outdoor area is a dream. It feels like you're bathing right in the forest. The staff were beyond amazing — we were treated like royalty. I’ll definitely come back. A huge thank you to the whole team! Highly recommended, 200%. Don’t hesitate — go for it!

Hakone is a lovely relaxing spot to stay after the bustle of Japanese Cities. We chose to stay here for a few days at the end of our trip, which was perfect. Definitely try one of the local Onsens - even if you feel a little uncomfortable about it - this was possibly the best part of our trip. The Hakone round trip is also great.

I didn't get further than Gora.

I didn't get further than Gora. I found it to be overcrowded and was glad to leave. I intended to spend some time in nature, but there are too many traffic jams and people. I was there on a Monday so I can't imagine what it would be like on the weekend. There are probably areas that are quieter, there was hard wind so the cable car didn't go and that led to more people driving up in cars and buses. I didn't have the Hakone Free Pass so I could just get on any bus and I was glad for that because there were a lot of people at bus stops who couldn't get into a bus because of their Free Pass.

A quiet town but buzzling with Tradition and History.

A quiet town but buzzling with Tradition and History. The food is amazing and the Onsen's are good. Biggest Challenge here is the transport. I recommend renting a car here especially if you want to go to neighbouring areas like Shizuoka, Fujikawaguchiko and Kamakura so see Mt. Fuji.

Loved the Open Air Museum -- great sculpture garden.

Loved the Open Air Museum -- great sculpture garden. And it has a foot bath, because why not? Nearby we stopped at the Gyoza Center, which was delicious. We did the Ropeway, and were delighted by the whole active volcano thing. There's a foot bath there, too. My feet have never been so pampered. With more time, I would have taken a ferry on the lake, and/or trained around to the other parts of Hakone, which is actually more spread out than I fully appreciated. I know people do Hakone as a day trip from Tokyo, but I think it was quite fun to stay and experience the full effect of hot springs culture.

The cable car ride up and over the volcanic fumaroles then down to Lake Ashi, and a boat trip across the lake. The parks, gardens and the cedar lined old Tokkaido Edo period road A reconstructed gatehouse and one of the old 17th century "Stations" on the Tokkaido. Fantastic views of Fuji san. Most of all I love to sleep in tatami beds. The great location and beautiful view and the onsen was nice too. The personnel were great and the dinner and breakfast traditional Japanese which we really appreciated. The hotel were close to Lake Ashi and ferries and buses. 5 minutes walk from the hotel was a possible view of Mt. Fuji-san and we were lucky to see it with a blue sky one morning. Thank you for our pleasent stay.

What a dream stay! I would recommend this hotel if you want to get an immersive Japanese experience in a traditional ryokan in the heart of Hakone - from the rooms, to the amazing onsens, to the traditional Japanese meals, everything comes together perfectly. And if you’re lucky, you can even see Mount Fuji from the private onsen! The staff is also super lovely and friendly.

Convenient location with walking distance from the Hakone-Yumoto station. Easy to get around with trains and.buses to other areas in Hakone, including the lake and the Open Air Museum.
