Go to Asobo no Sato Kugino (Mapcode: 256 215 698*86) it's a roadside station with a beautiful view of Mt Aso and it's has a dog run, goods for sale, entertainment sometimes, beer stand, soba shop where you can make your own soba, a cafeteria style restaurant. Takachiho Gorge and reserve a boat to boat in the gorge. I got a little lost on some small one lane switch back roads. So just know that some of the driving can be a little stressful.
