Cultural and historic Japanese style inn with various kinds of hot springs. Delicious food and staff members' welcoming hospitality. We enjoyed retro style Japanese beauty. Maze like facility. Reaching out to our room was intriguing.

Breakfast was served in the large restaurant, and the quality was superb with the staff being very attentive and nice. Loved the Japanese selection! Room was nice and large, and very clean. Two choices of private onsen! We managed to enjoy both of them. In case you're hungry from all the onsen, they also provide ramen, drinks and beer for supper for free!

Very pleasant small house, clean, comfortable and providing all you need and more, with instructions. It's in the middle of nowhere which is what we were looking for, and at the same time permits to drive in a reasonable time to any Izu coast.

There is a more to explore here than we realized. Apart from hiking up hills for great views, we did not budget enough time for more sight-seeing. We had wanted to visit a wasabi farm but wound up at a wasabi market which was really cool with lots of wasabi based products - that was an experience in itself. Probably best explored by car.

It was a lovely small town, a welcome change from busy cities crowded with tourists. Very relaxing, beautiful hot springs in the middle of town, a charming temple and shrine surrounded by huge cedar trees. We stayed twi nights and really enjoyed it. From Shuzenji station you can take bus to a viewing area where if the weather conditions are right you can view Mt Fuji.

A car or bike is really essential to get around, and see the the sights, as buses may only run a few times each day.
Doi Gold Mine is an excellent working museum, lots to see and touch, even handle the pure gold ingots weighing 12.5kg. You can even do some gold panning. 400 metres of caves have been prepared as an example of the old hand-dug mines, 30 cm per day.
Mihama beach is great for families, sheltered, with good facilities, and the nearby Heda museum documenting Japan-Russian relations.
Lots of small coastal towns, with some places to stay, though many restaurants close early, and there are very few convenience stores, meaning you need to stock up and plan your trip and meals.
Food is mainly sea food, izakayas, the odd Italian and Chinese restaurant, and some tea/ coffee shops. Not really a culinary hot spot. Beach restaurants serve ramen, hot dogs, yakisoba, and other fast foods.
Quite a few abandoned places, relics of the bubble era.

public transport is very difficult, expensive and quite rare, make sure to check timetables (all in japanese by the way) because you can end up waiting hours for the next bus. But very beautiful and many many things to see so leave a lot of time and maybe rent a car if you can

Bad parts:
The Toi sakura is a little disappointing for the volume is far from enough. And the traffic is not so convenient considering most buses only come once an hour.
5-star experience with excellent food, amazing environment and impeccable service. The hotel offered complimentary pick up from the train station. They also kindly catered to my vegetarian request for dinner and breakfast. The 'room' is so spacious that it's basically a house. All amenities are provided and we particularly love the garden view. All the staff are very kind and attentive. We have no problem with communication with their translation app. Highly recommend for a relaxing stay.
Fabulous large Japanese style room on the top floor overlooking the beach. Flasks of boiling water and iced water delivered twice a day. A very warm welcome from an English speaker ( though there were only 2 in the whole hotel)
Our deal included dinner and breakfast. Exceptional evening meals of many courses, some of which we had to cook ourselves at the table. Great fun. Breakfast was a really good buffet.
The Onsen was lovely.
There were some staff who can fluently speak english. The place gave us countryside vibes and is literally located in countryside of Japan. So if you want a peaceful & relaxing place to stay , this is the place for you when in Izu or after you went for a swim at Shirahama. About an hour from Shirahama Beach in Shimoda. They have onsen and indoor pool as well. I’ve noticed a free shuttle bus going to the onsen , spa & pool.
The location is not obvious, but there is a free shuttle service between the station and the hotel. For those who want to rest for a night or a few days away from big cities, this hotel is perfect, especially the rooms with a private bathtub and a terrace facing Mount Fuji. The view is superb, it doesn't even seem real, and the bath in the private onsen is incredible for relaxing. The room is very clean and comfortable.
the hotel is very nice, very close to the sea and you can enjoy the sunset in the sea from the room's window or the beach. Sea is very beautiful and the water is very clean.
The dinner and breakfast both delicious and the services are also very good. the only question is hotel is very far from the city and mishima train station, and you need to take almost 2h bus-trip to the hotel and which is only 2 buses per day.
We went there for a cycling trip and it was the perfect homebase. We immediately felt at home, the breakfast was traditional japanese and really delicious every day. The hospitality was immaculate and after our long rides we really enjoyed the onsen to relax. The room was tidy and we slept really well on the futon. Do recommend and definitely would love to come back there some time.

Jamie and Ryohe were the ones who made this hostel special. Courteous and friendly. Such lovely people to talk to. The hostel looks like you're staying in a traditional Japanese home. So inviting with such warmth. Facilities were great. I love the color and ambiance of this hostel. Hope to stay here again if I return to Shuzenji in Izu.
Our first ryokan.
Good parking
Staff were amazing. We are bad and don't know any Japanese but the staff spoke some English and used their phone to translate when needed.
Food was so fun, very Japanese and we loved it. The scenery was even better. You eat right beside a river with these heated tables...so awesome.
Our room: perfect.
Very nice traditional room, lot of space, direct view on the river. There's only a sink but we were close to the outside bathroom and this is often the deal with traditional old ryokan. The breakfast was Japanese and very nice, we loved the room where it was served. The location is right inside Shuzenji, it was lovely.
The service was excellent, and the food was great.
I like the onsen. It’s private outdoor onsen is very comfortable. At night, you could see the stars while bathing.
The room is spacious. Great experience, the only disadvantage is it’s price…
One of the most efficiently run hotels that I’ve been to. The whole system is seamless and the quality of the food was also excellent. Hot springs pools are devine. I now would like to stay in all other hotels run by this corporation.
Beautiful surrounding, right next to a river. 4 private onsen to choose from, scan QR code to check availability. Breakfast was great, eating next to the river was a cool experience. Large and clean room.
There was a great small onsen right around the corner, the shower was great, we loved the capsule beds. I could have used a little thicker mats, but really nice. The staff was amazing.
Excellent service with the team going above and beyond. The room was great with a comfortable bed and our outside room onsen was amazing. Food was excellent and a lot of it.
