Kyoto is a place where can absorb as much time as you could spend, lovely gardens, magnificent temples, ancient streets, wonderful food... Food was one of the highlights, of course! We had nice lunches in Rokkaku Kitchen 109, Kajiya. They are right next door. Both were excellent. The finale was Kaiseki dinner at Minokichi Karasuma Shijo, founded in 1716, and described as one of the "eight licensed restaurants to serve fresh-water fishes" under the Edo-period Kyoto government. The Kaiseki was epic!

Kyoto is a very busy city and very popular with foreign tourist. it has a great transportation and the taxis are reasonably priced. Kyoto has modern supermarkets, which was unexpected. There are many sites to see; we took advantage of the Ayurveda clinic in town for massages and deep rest. It was our second visit there.

We booked in advance for the Shugakuin garden.

We booked in advance for the Shugakuin garden. Well worth it. Also, for the Shosoin exhibition in Nara. These made it a very special trip. My first time visiting Nijo castle, again, beautiful gardens and teahouse

The Arashiyama district of Kyoto was uniquely beautiful.

The Arashiyama district of Kyoto was uniquely beautiful. Too many tourists but understandably so. The Nihonjin people and culture are Johin(understated classy and elegant), humbly confident. Kind. Arashiyama’s connection to nature is what the rest of the world needs to embrace. Arigato gozaimasu, Kyoto.

I am an exception to most tourists in that I never tire of seeing temples and shrines, and Kyoto had plenty. They were wonderful. The gardens were beautiful, made even more so by the changing colors of the trees (it was November). I tried many different restaurants and came away a true fan of Japanese food.

Kyoto had some of the best food that I've ever had and some of the nicest sites to view! I especially enjoyed all of the temples and shrines and the culture that the city seems to be steeped in. Kyoto is also definitely the most crowded of the places I visited, with a lot of more famous locations super packed. The train system definitely isn't as robust as some of the other cities and the buses were super packed as a result.

We really liked our stay at Kinparo. The staff was very friendly (even if not all of them speak English very well, they did their best to meet your needs). Every evening the futons were made ready for us. First time for us sleeping in a Ryokan and we found it more comfortable than we thought! Overall, it was a very special experience. The location of the hotel is great, literally two steps from the market. Also, walking distance from the station and pretty much from all sites in Gion.

We loved our stay at Sakara Gion. It's a spacious two-bedroom machiya house, perfect for a family. Located in the heart of Gion district, a short walk to Tatsumi bridge, Shinbashi-dori, Yasaka Shrine, Kenninji Temple and Gion corner, but on a quiet street. We saw geisha twice. The host was friendly and responsive, giving us tips on the best local restaurants. Two metro stations are close by. The house has a lived-in feel, which is great for families.

Room was great as it was just the right size for a couple and the best part was we had a washing machine. The room was somewhat traditional but a must during your stay to Japan. Beds a little hard. Bathroom a little small but fine for 3 nights. It was boutique style. Location was within walking distance to Gion district & Nishiki Markets. Right near subway station and plenty of eateries.

Big hotel with nice, comfortable rooms. Conveniently located opposite Kyoto train station though we had trouble finding the hotel. Continental breakfast is excellent, one of the best during our trip. There's a lounge for hotel guests with free drinks and snack.
