The view from the rooms is amazing. The best is the private Onsen with view to the bay, absolutely stunning. The staff is superattentive and they axplain everything in english. Declared one of Japan's top 3 scenic views, this is a cute hamlet to get away from big city travel. They have wonderful oyster/seafood restaurants, beautiful shrines, and a gorgeous waterfront. Easy daytrip from Sendai, but worth a night's stay if you have the time.

I had a fantastic stay at this ryokan.

I had a fantastic stay at this ryokan. The indoor onsen was wonderfully relaxing, offering a peaceful and soothing experience. What truly stood out, though, was the incredible staff. From the moment we arrived, they made us feel like family—attentive, kind, and always ready to help with a smile. Their genuine hospitality really made the stay special. The room was comfortable and traditional, with everything we needed for a cozy, restful night. I highly recommend this ryokan for anyone looking for exceptional service and a peaceful getaway.

Matsushima is a small tourist city, quite a few coaches and...

Matsushima is a small tourist city, quite a few coaches and tour parties. The main attraction is a boat trip around the bay which is recommended, although it may be nicer in one of the smaller boats. Don't miss the local temples, which have lovely gardens, and in Autumn, light ups, which shouldn't be missed.

Walking over the long bridge to Fukuurajima and then walking...

Walking over the long bridge to Fukuurajima and then walking around the island was very enjoyable and gave a better view of the other islands in the bay than we got from the boat trip. There were evening light displays in the two temples when we were visiting; they were both lovely - we enjoyed the visit to Entsuin the most, perhaps, partly because of the great recital (Japanese flute and harps)

Scenic little town with lots to view.

Scenic little town with lots to view. We walked the town and explored all the tourist sights. Took a short boat ride around the bay for 1000¥ ,if you want to sit upstairs on boat you’ll need to pay another 600¥. Main Shrine currently under renovation

It's amazing.

It's amazing. There's such an incredible amount to do and see. We explored for 5 hours two days in a row in the freezing cold and would do it again in a heartbeat it was so nice. So many restaurants, hotels, gift shops, places of outstanding beauty, museums... amazing.

Lovely greeting, room was spacious with beautiful Tatami mats. Comfy futon, quiet location, bath was fantastic, easy walk to all the attractions of Matsushima. We were taken to the station as it was raining by owner..amazingly friendly. Great stay in a traditional Japanese Guest House.

The owner is so nice and has the most communicative laugh. He gave me great advices for my stay in Matsushima, but also in the Tohoku region. The guesthouse is right in the middle of the city. You're 2 minutes away from everything.
