Reggie, the owner, was absolutely fantastic and made us feel extremely at home. He was very helpful at all times, and throughout our 10-day stay was always very responsive and nice. We also loved the room - it was very cosy and cute and exactly what we wanted. The vinyl player in the room and the general vibe of Grapelli was also brilliant.

Very friendly, client oriented and professional staff. Arrived and had an free upgraded room already waiting. Small issue in the room that couldn't be resolved on the spot and in return another upgrade was provided. Had a fantastic stay for myself and my child with a disability and nothing but praise for the assistance provided. 10/10 would recommend this hotel.

We just left Alkamr with a big smile. The family is so nice, friendly and the hospitality is perfect. The apartment is very large, very comfortable and in the middle of the old city, so you are at the center once you go out of the apartment. We recommend it very warmly.

The fact to sleep in a former prison in actual prison cells was funny. Biiig rooms, very comfortable. The restaurant was super, the excellent kitchen staff accepted to prepare our meals even though it was at 1 minute to closing time and we had some extra demands (dairy free instead of butter sauce). Bravo!

    It is a small city, very clean, neat and attractive with interesting streets and canals. It has a very old large church with a magnificent organ in which cultural events are held regularly. There is a also a Stedelijk museum, worth a visit. It takes only 35 mins by train to reach Amsterdam. Fabulous countryside for cycling. Beach and North Sea close by.

    Alkmaar is very pretty. There is an old town and a new town,

    Alkmaar is very pretty. There is an old town and a new town, We enjoyed their historic festival, although we did not know it was on! The train station gives good access to the rest of the Netherlands. We went to Amsterdam on an easy day trip. The people were very helpful. The old town is easiest on foot. The SPA had lovely packaged meals to eat hot or cold and we loved having those in our apartment.

    A charming old town with a great selection of shops cafes and restaurants, all within easy walking distance. Recommend the friday cheese market and consider the Kaeskoppenstad-which was held on 7 & 8th June 12-17:00 in 2025 People from Alkmaar are known as Kaeskoppen (Cheeseheads). Each year the centre of Alkmaar takes a step back to the 16" century, just after the liberation from the Spanish in 1573.

    Warning, I'm biased towards the city of Alkmaar, as I have grown up there (age 11 - 24). This was my first time staying in a hotel in Alkmaar; great choice. The city has a lot to offer, minus the hassle and bustle of a city like Amsterdam. I walked around the city as a tourist, much to see and appreciate. Alkmaar is a central location with easy access to blooming tulip fields (right time of the year), beaches (Bergen, Egmond), other major cities are easily and quickly reached by train (e.g. Amsterdam, Haarlem, Utrecht, The Hague).

When I arrived to Amrath Hotel in Alkmaar on 7.11.2024, Amrath Hotel informed me that there was o payment made and they collected 241,76 EUR (2 x 120.88 EUR) from me from my credit card with auth. codes 005590 and 074669.. Since then, I try to contact several times with booking.com and asking them to refund 286.-EUR to my card. . But no refund yet. Best Regards Tanju Arbag

    It is a modern furnished apartment very well presented and great central location. The facilities were superb and the toiletries were high end. There is a supermarket just over the road if you need anything. Though there is parking next to the supermarket the parking is much cheaper if you park next to the town hall only 200 m away. Alkmaar is a beautiful town surrounded by canals and it’s old medieval streets are a joy to walk down. It is also a great base to visit northern Holland.

    Gorgeous and cosy little apartment with an attentive host. All of the equipment needed for our 4 night stay and a very generous welcome package. Alkmaar is a beautiful little town, convenient for Amsterdam and a delightful place to stay, with a good quality of life and all the shops and restaurants you could possibly need within a very short walk.

    The location was really nice, there are a lot of pretty shops around and it is relatively near the train station that takes you to Amsterdam. The place it also quite clean even when you only have the basics.
