A small pocket of land that includes Valkenburg in the southern Limburg province of the Netherlands contradicts the flat landscape we usually associate with The Lowlands of Holland. Nearby is the 3-country point where The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany come together, and on the Dutch side there is a plaque marking the location of the highest point in Holland. Many other castles such as Schaloen and Geulzicht make interesting day trips into the Geul Valley countryside.

Absolutely perfect.

Just a rather passable hotel, not particularly worth the price that it cost to stay there. The bed was comfy, the mini fridge didn't work at all, and staff were rather unfriendly / avoidant of us. Lovely place to visit the caves housing the christmas markets are great. Feel like there should have been more hospitality positions inside the caves, but there are many cafes/restaurants and pubs in abundance outside, too many to choose from! The people are really pleasant and helpful, all in all a great place to visit without driving around, pedestrianised streets with all the restaurants are brilliant.
