A very warm welcome by the hotel manager, well organized for restaurant & trip bookings, nice library / sitting room with free drinks and sweets. We stayed at The Carousel and The Belfry. The nearby bird park was totally abandoned, and there weren't many other attractions to walk around. However, as a stopover for Milford Sound, a two-day stay is a good arrangement to avoid long periods of driving. Te Anau Lakeview Holiday Park & Motels is a comfortable place to stay. In town, Luxmore Souvenirs has Taiwanese staff who are very friendly. Personally, I didn't think Ristorante Pizzeria Paradiso or Miles Better Pies were particularly tasty.

Great little town with great food.

Great little town with great food. Lots of scenic opportunities to enjoy, walks for the adventurous and for those who want a stroll. My elderly parents loved the Lower Kepler walk - we just did 40min in, turned and 40min out each spare day. This is also very sheltered in the wind or rain, so is a good wet day option. Remember to walk around the Little Lake Te Anau in the village park, then you can tell your friends you walked around the whole lake! Miles Pies or Fish & Chips by the lake!

Everything we needed and more with the accommodation we chose. Grocery stores, laundromat if needed. Fuel stations, many restaurant choices. Beautiful lake. Great starting point for @luxe tours to Milford Sound as well as Doubtful sound, Glow Worm Caves. Easy to get around.

Stunning area, Lake is gorgeous, walks along the lake, heaps of accommodation to choose from. Milford Sound, is only 2 hours away. So Te Anau is a great stopping point for accommodation. Manapouri is a short drive away as well. Plus Te Anau is close to some popular Tramps, Kepler, Milford and Routeburn.

Milford is a must if you have come this far, do the cruise, plan for a 3 hour drive each way, so you can stop at Mirror lakes and all the viewpoints, its best when it's raining, but it's truly beautiful with a light bit of snow.

Being the gateway to Milford sound and Doubtful Sound makes Te Anau an ideal place to Stay. The Glowworm trip was an added bonus and well worth the visit. We did go to the Movie theater for a drink and meal and movie and you could take your drinks into the theater sitting on very comfortable large seats. There many walks around Te Anau area, we opted for the Te Anau walk around the lake to the Control gates, A short walk to Lake Mistletoe and the Lake Gunn Nature Walk nad Mirrir lake walks both needing some time to drive to the track starting points. We hired some bikes to explore fantastic trails to well worth the effort.

We really enjoyed our stay in Kea by the Lake. It is a small, quiet, motel-type place. The room. was small but comfortable. There is a lovely large shared kitchen area that is fully equipped and serves only a few rooms, and also a large living room. It is by Te Anau lake front (no views from the rooms), and is in walking distance of all the restaurants.

We stayed in Te Anau for two nights and the location was excellent to walk to the meeting place for our tours. It was walkable to restaurants as well and we ate at the downstairs restaurant in the hotel and it was good. Lovely staff. Heating worked well, bed comfortable, nice new bathroom with good water pressure in the shower.

This was one of the best hotels we stayed in for our New Zealand holiday. It was very spacious, clean and had great facilities. The staff were very lovely and gave some suggestions for activities around the area. If we ever return to Te Anau, we will be back here!
