We stayed at the Apollo which was an easy walk into town.
We stayed at the Apollo which was an easy walk into town. Buses to areas out of the city seemed pretty regular. Wellington is a pretty switched on city, with a creative energy and plenty of things to enjoy. Cuba St which is pedestrians only has plenty of cafes and restaurants and the food is top notch. Our favourites for dinner were Loretta’s, Olive, Mr Go’s. Icecream and Creaming sodas at Duck Island, coffees at Pickle and Pie, Cheese Scones beautiful pastries and coffee at Myrtle’s. Some good clothing shops, also recycling shops where there was really good clothing for sale at low prices, good bookstores. A must visit is Te Papa Museum - Level 4 Māori and Pacific Island history is impressive. The museum’s shop is also worth checking out. The lobby of QT Hotel (there’s a golden hippo on the hotel’s exterior) - you don’t need to be a guest to wander in to view the lobby area which includes a magnificent private art collection and a ritzy bar. Plenty of bars with music and Sunday Farmers Market on the waterfront was bustling with plenty of fruit and vegetables along with brunch food and coffee available.

Bus rides and train rides are awesome, just get yourself a Snapper card and more than one person can travel with that one card. Only one person can travel on that card on trains. Travelling in bus was also good, no hassle to driving or parking, bus service are almost everywhere till late nights and safe environments.

We thought Wellington was a beautiful City.
We thought Wellington was a beautiful City. We were there in late March. The weather was lovely and cool, just the right temperature if you like to explore a new location on foot. The bus system in the City is brilliant. The Metlink public transport card system can be a little intimidating but once you master it, it works exceptionally well. Otherwise, you can pay cash when travelling on the buses or trains, but it is quite significantly more expensive to pay this way. Also, it pays to check out the fare before you travel and have the correct money when getting on because nearly everyone uses the prepaid Metlink card so the driver has limited change. The seafood in New Zealand is the best in the world in my opinion. If you are staying centrally and have cooking facilities, I would recommend the Seafood Market in Lambton Quay or Cuba Street. It is not a huge shop but the fish comes in daily. Their fish and chips are pretty good as well. But there are plenty of seafood restaurants around that serve great food. Wellington is a a gorgeous city and reminded me very much of San Francisco.

Visited Te Papa Museum, Wellington Museum, Botanic Gardens...
Visited Te Papa Museum, Wellington Museum, Botanic Gardens and Portrait Gallery, all free access and excellent. Also took Cable Car (as you do) but the walk to and from Botanic Gardens is relatively easy as well. Went to Te Papa Museum and spent the entire day there - excellent. Ate at the Crab Shack and had the best meal in our entire NZ 2 week holiday - unfortunately, it was closed for 2 out of the 3 days we were in Wellington or we would have been back.
The hotel is well located for access to the Wellington CBD - with cuba street, the michael fowler centre and te papa all within easy walking distance. The staff were all pleasant and helpful and we were able to store our luggage prior to check in. The room was well appointed with two bedrooms, fully equipped bathroom and ensuite. The lounge was a good size and the furniture there comfortable; the balcony off the lounge overlooked the adjoining church. The kitchen was reasonably well equipped with a nice tea selection. The room was quiet.
My preferred place to stay in Wellington CBD. Great central location. The city noises are non-existent. Many hotels in the CBD you will hear people and rubbish collection, not here. Excellent price, especially when you compare their 1 bedroom apt against most studio rooms. Staff are super helpful and polite.
Everything the Motel had to offer was exceptional Close to CBD, Cafes, Eateries, Te Papa Museum. Well worth it staying at Bay Plaza Hotel.
Room had great views of Wellington CBD, waterfront. Close to Airport. Staff were awesome, friendly and cheerful. Definitely would recommend staying here.
Well-equipped. Located near the harbourfront, in the citycenter, next to the Willis Street, it was a great location. Elevator available via the garage to access the street or hotel to avoid the stairs. With the Airport Express Bus, you are from/to the Wellington Airport within 20 to 30 minutes.
It’s location was perfect for walking to and from all city destinations. Corner room had good views and was on a quiet street near a great New World supermarket and delicious fish & chips shop. The breakfast offering was generous and a hotel dinner was superb!
We have stayed at of hotels in Sojourn Apartments Hotel, Wellington . The rooms were clean and well-maintained. the location was perfect - close to the city centre and attractions. Staff was very hospitable and there for every need of us. Thank you so much.
Strategic location in Wellington, close to all city sights & facilities. Excellent & lavish breakfast, very good Wi-Fi & very friendly & helpful staff. Rooms clean & cozy. A hotel point of reference definitely to recommend for enjoying your in Wellington.
Needed a place close to the south of Wellington to stay overnight. Room was spacious, clean and there was parking available on site. Would stay here again. (Just be mindful that this is in the middle of the city so you do get city noise)
A excellent hotel with a great location. We had access to the Harbour Lounge which was superb, and had a great view of the city and Wellington Harbour. Rooms were great, and friendly staff made our stay that much more enjoyable.
The hotel has great character, the staff are super friendly. Our room was clean and had everything we needed. The location is perfect and walking distance to all the Wellington CBD areas. We would definitely stay here again.
Boulcoutt is the preferred accommodation in Wellington for our executive team. The staff are helpful and friendly and the accommodation is comfortable and clean. It is fairly central to where we need to go in the city.
A fine hotel w/ kitchen, somewhat up the hill from the centre of Wellington, and down the hill from the botanic gardens. A good base for visiting Auckland on foot. Room was well appointed. We had a good stay.
I was in Wellington for a conference and this hotel was centrally located and close to both the conference venue and the CBD. The room had all the facilities I could have wanted. The breakfast was great.
A great city based hotel. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay at this motel the next occasion I am visiting Wellington. Extra bonus of the underground carpark. Highly recommended!
The location of the hotel is right in the heart of the retail and commercial hub of the city. Very convenient and easy to move about and explore the city. The room was comfortable and well equipped.
The hotel is close to the city sights and restaurants. Loved our room which was quiet and perfectly appointed. Breakfast was also perfect for our needs. Staff was gracious and helpful.
sahid teddy kamara, like to travel with kadiatu Bangura, and are daughter mariama Mary kamara in new Zealand capital of Wellington James cook hotel grand chancellor.
We loved the location - central city and close to the waterfront walkway, dining, and Te Papa. I would choose this hotel for another visit to Wellington.
Great location. Central to all the shops and all the city attractions. Hotel not your normal run of mill establishment. Wellesley has character and soul.
