I recently had a wonderful stay at Villa Astra - Apartments & Restaurant in Osvetim. The property is beautifully maintained, with a charming garden and cozy gazebos. We were very happy that we chose to stay in Oswiecim rather than just travelling there from Krakow. In addition to Auschwitz, we visited the Ospitzin Synagogue and museum (a very moving and informative memorial), toured the local murals, wandered around the older part of town, enjoyed the parks, and had a spectacular dinner at the Old Tree Villa and Restaurant.

The town is ok the local museum is mostly in Polish but the...

The town is ok the local museum is mostly in Polish but the staff speak German and Russian and I was able to visit and talk in German. Most of the town was closed even though it was 2pm on a Tuesday. But Auschwitz was what I was there for very moving

Ok, we are not a young couple, I am 72 and my wife is 55 but...

Ok, we are not a young couple, I am 72 and my wife is 55 but we find the area safe, quiet and beautiful. Its a small slice of heaven. We walk everywhere and its a true joy. The Old Town is quaint and small and a 1 k walk from our unit, there are old buildings and forts nearby and a river and beautiful parklands there with a cafe and restaurants. Great cakeshops and cafes. You can walk safely all over, just look up Google maps for ideas. Its 60 to 90 mins on new electric trains to Krakow. Just look up our review on' New air conditioned unit Oswiecim' on this site.

Only thing that let it down was the restaurant we ate at…...

Only thing that let it down was the restaurant we ate at… Chata na Zaborskiej. We planned that meal for a week, visited the restaurant when we arrived the night before to make sure it was going to be what we expected. The staff were really nice and helpful… but the food… all courses for both of us were bland, uncooked for one of them and not anything we could recommend to others. Could be we were unlucky but the experience was bad and we would not eat there again.

Oświęcim is a beautiful town!

Oświęcim is a beautiful town! There are so many places to walk and bike, historical things to see, lots of nature and fresh air. I really enjoyed its peaceful vibe! There's an excellent transit system in town, however, I chose to walk everywhere and soak in the charm of the town. I hope to return again for a longer visit!

The hotel staff were the standout. They were super friendly and accommodating. The hotel is also around the corner from the main town square. The rooms are comfortable and the AC worked - we arrived during a heatwave and was definitely needed. We visited because we had a tour of Auschwitz-Birkenau the following day and it is ideal if you booked a tour first thing in the morning. The bar and food is also amazing!

The hotel is beautiful. The grounds are immaculate and the hotel is spotless. You can tell this is a property that is looked after. The room was also perfect. It was very modern and clean. The staff were amazing. I needed to check in early so that I could attend a tour at Auschwitz and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. The car park is located at the rear of the property, plenty of space.
