10 out of 10. Isabel and Pierre are just perfect hosts. The room and bed were both very comfortable, the breakfast delicious and the stay overall very pleasant. The room had a fridge with complimentary water and soft drinks, converters for european plugs, and a beautiful view towards the mountains - we got what we needed to mend two very tired travellers. This hotel was by far the best place we stayed on our trip. The breakfast was sumptuous and splendid, the welcome we got was like a welcome home, and every need was catered for. The weather was very cold but we we’re delighted to find electric blankets on the bed as well as a heater in the room. The tea and coffee selection was great and we got a cute bar one to snack on each! If we could give 11/10 as a rating we would. Definitely will be back and sad we only stayed one night, thank you Patrick!!

Swellendam is a stunning town.

Swellendam is a stunning town. All the comforts you need are there and at the same time you can get away into the mountains and outer areas. There are good restaurants and coffee shops and great activities around the area. Mountain biking is what I would go for, but our stay was too short. Lots of history and my family and I were surprised at what this town had to offer. We normally just drive past, but was great to stay over.

A beautiful little town with a lot to see, do and eat. The restaurants are top notch. We ate at De Vagebond for Supper their food was fantastic with great and friendly service, then we had breakfast at La Belle Alliance their view, food and service were tops. We also had a breakfast at Aan de Eike Guest House, it is a beautiful modern restaurant with lekker food and friendly service. The town is so clean and absolutely beautiful. We love going there. Activities for big and small go to the Fairy Garden. Swellendam is definitely a town to visit!

The town was a 30 minute pleasant walk had various restaurants& fast food places We booked De Vagerbond restaurant a really nice meal I had ostrich steak it was delicious. The staff very friendly I would definitely recommend. There is a big pick & paystore petrol station and a few clothes shops. Has a flea market on a Saturday.

Lots of people use this as a one night stop to break their journeys. That is fine, but I would honestly stay an extra night if you are not in a rush. Great place to relax and enjoy their excellent food and hospitality.

The Hamlet is situated in a beautiful valley just outside of Swellendam. Although it is only a few minutes away from the town, it doesn’t feel that way with horses, cows, peacocks, and little chickens roaming around the farm. The unit was well-equipped and clearly well cared for. We especially enjoyed the wood-fired hot tub outside; it was a nice touch that the fire was already going when we checked in in the afternoon. These thoughtful details contributed to a lovely stay!

The view from the room was incredible. Self catering accommodation, so we decided to take full advantage of the room and nip to the local supermarket for food. We ate on our balcony area and watched the sun set. Staff were also very welcoming and let us use the washing facilities for an extra charge. Room was very spacious and everything needed inside.

A very well run establishment. We had a great room with a nice en suite. Peaceful gardens by a small river, and a nice decked area around the pool for sunbathing. Located in a quiet road a 5 minute walk to a number of restaurants, and an easy walk to Swellendam High Street. Ample breakfast with a good choice and v friendly staff.

This is an insanely beautiful farm very well placed from all the amenities of Swellendam down whilst still feeling remote and close to nature. I'd highly recommend River Cottage for a private, comfortable stay with a lovely garden with a view of the horses. Will definitely return
