Its historic centre (known as Intramuros; Spanish for ‘within the walls) is surrounded by a long circuit of gigantic stone walls and forts. You’ll encounter the main landmarks of Fort Santiago and Manila Cathedral inside this age-old district. The most common accommodation options are hotels and apartments, with many a short distance away from popular beaches. In more rural areas you’ll find a good selection of villas, lodges, campsites and farm stays.
