Nara
Tsukihitei is located in the Kasugayama Primeval Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Each guest room has a Japanese-style decor and offer panoramic forest views, traditional tatami (woven-straw) floors, and shoji paper screens. I've stayed at a lot of ryokans in Japan (and a lot of hotels). This one might be my very favorite, though it's hard to have a favorite. I can say that it is so exceptional, I've been twice and will likely go again. It's not cheap! But you get so much for what you pay. It's not possible to stay anywhere else in the Kasuga woods and so if that kind of thing matters to you, then know that you go to sleep and wake up deep in these primordial woods. You might hear the flying squirrels at night--or see one at dinner, as we did. The air is clean and old and heavenly. The little ramps connecting rooms feel like something out of Heian Japan. The lighting is subtle, but still dramatic so you feel lifted into another world at night. Subtle things like the sound of falling water connect you to the elements. There is nothing over-processed here, or over stylized, as in modern hotels. If you prefer an "Andaz" or "Ritz Carlton" type of thing, then this is not for you. If you want something that feels utterly Japanese, then this is for you. The baths are both exquisite, as are the rooms. And the Kyoto style food was out of this world. Again, if you need a hamburger for dinner, then this place won't be for you either. But if you like exquisite, inventive, seasonal and utterly surprising Kaiseki food, that is still charming and inviting, then nothing is like Tsukihitei. And as a bonus, you are right by the foothills of a gorgeous mountain walk. Everything from the staff, to the snacks (which are plentiful) to the flower arrangements are beautifully chosen. Tsukihitei has also managed to maintain hallmarks of ryokan service (making your futon), without being intrusive. I've been in ryokan where the staff are constantly with you, and that is exhausting. That doesn't happen here. If you are looking for a pure Kansai and Japanese experience, I'm not sure where you will have a better stay.

Very kind staff, family friendly, very accomidating and accepting towards tourists definitely recommend over anywhere else in nara!
Great location in centre of nara. Dining table, living area and sleeping area were very comfortable . Great for family stay with extended family or 2 families
We stayed as a family of 4 adults and 2 children. The house was spacious and gracious. The area was quiet with good access to buses. Kitchen was modern and fresh, the washing machine was handy with very good racks for drying. The two young girls loved the make up station. We stayed in winter and although it was cold outside and in the bathroom area, the living and sleeping areas were cosy.
We enjoyed our o/n stay in a Quadruple room which had 4 single beds and seating area. For a family of 4 (2 adults & 2 teens) it was a really spacious room and was great value for money. The hotel is practically next door to Kintetsu-Nara Station and only a 10 minute walk from Nara Station. Nara Park & Todai-ji Temple are a 10-15 minute walk. There is an option to store your luggage if you arrive early by using your Suica card or you can contact hotel staff via an internal phone. The hologram check in was fun.
Spacious and pristine family-friendly Onsen facilities, only a five minute walk from the train station. Clean rooms, friendly staff and free ramen in the evening! We loved the Tatami floors and traditional, cozy feel of this hotel.
We are a family of four with two teenagers. We had a quadruple room with four beds. The beds are comfortable and the location was really good. Walking distance to Nara park and the shopping/ dinning street. The place was clean. Breakfast, although simple, was included and tasty.
Hotel staff especially in the evening were really kind and helpful! Good free-wifi connection. Experiencing origami making was fun and our kids were so happy!
Came here for first night after arrival in Japan (24 hours travelling). Ideal for that; under 5 minutes by foot from the station. Wasn't able to have dinner (fully-booked); buffet breakfast was very good. Everything very clean; nice public bath. The breakfast was a mix of families and young children, and 55 years plus.
Hotel is clean and the staff is helpful (although only online because of covid). Self-check-in procedure and rules of the place are well described. Good location - beautiful pond right next to the hotel (during our stay we saw a family of deers there everyday). There are also some shops and restaurants within 5 minutes walk from the hotel.
