The Excelsior is located in the city centre of La Maddalena Island, a 2-minute walk from the ferries to/from Palau. There is free public parking in front of the hotel.

A varied buffet is served in a breakfast room with views of Santo Stefano Island. In summer, guests can enjoy it on the panoramic outdoor terrace. Everything, nothing to remark. The reception lady was extremely forthcoming and everything went smoothly. Breakfast was actually breakfast and not only pastries as usually in Italy.

The staff went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. Due to my own errors in scheduling, we accidentally arrived the day before our stay was supposed to begin, but immediately, the man working the front desk (I've sadly forgotten his name) worked on finding a way to accommodate us anyway and was so reassuring when I felt so bad about my mistake. He and every other staffer we interacted with made us feel so welcome and at home for our whole time there. The hotel itself was also gorgeous! We loved our room, the courtyard, the breakfast area/restaurant, & run-ins with the peacock :) The location was so peaceful and tranquil, while still a quick drive from Pula, where there were a lot of great shops and restaurants, and from many beautiful beaches. My partner is also a runner and greatly enjoyed the area around the hotel for his runs--the road it was on continued straight up a nearby mountain and offered gorgeous views. We're so grateful to the folks at this hotel for helping make our vacation so special, and hope to come back and stay here again!
