Out of all the hotels I’ve stayed in in Japan, this one is by far the best. The room is very clean and fragrant, and has complete amenities in the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. It even has a washing machine that is easy to use. I also love the balcony - it has a great view of the train station. The staff are really nice. They communicate and respond well to questions. They even offered me extra bottled water when I requested for more. One of them also helped me with my luggage delivery even though he was on his break. The hotel is in a perfect location, just beside the bus/train station. There’s a FamilyMart nearby and everything is a short walking distance away. I really got my money’s worth. I would definitely stay here again! I had a lovely time.

Free flow drink for evening until 11pm - beer, sake, juice, ice-cream etc. staffs are great, able to speak English very well. The location also great, able to walk to the whole Takayama city centre.

The place is absolutely beautiful. By far one of the nicest hotels I've been in. Every detail is well thought of, and the location near Takayama Old city is great.

Upon arrival, we were served matcha tea and traditional peanut snacks from Takayama, which were both delicious. All of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. In particular, Haruka provided us with a detailed explanation of the ryokan's facilities, as well as recommendations on attractions in and around Takayama. When we asked if we could buy fruits at Miyagawa morning market, she recommended that we buy apples there, and we successfully managed to purchase sweet apples the next day. Haruka also provided us with an extremely generous selection of Japanese snacks and helped us to select fragrant Japanese incense to light up in our room. The staff were able to communicate in basic English and the posters / printouts in the hotel (e.g. guidance on how to use the onsen & eat the Japanese breakfast) were in multiple languages. The ryokan went above and beyond to help us with our requests. They helped us to book a reservation at our requested restaurant (Kyoya) on the day of our stay, even though we reached out to them prior to our stay. I had initially wanted to ask them to help me forward my luggage to another hotel, but they kindly offered to help me store my luggage for 1.5 days after our checkout instead, which helped me save on luggage forwarding fees. The ryokan is housed in a building that is over 100 years old. Despite this, the rooms were impressively clean and well-maintained, with modern facilities such as air-conditioning and bidet toilets. The futons in the room were also very cozy and the blanket was thick and comfortable. The ryokan has an indoor onsen, which we found very relaxing after a long day outside. The ryokan can also help you light up an irori (traditional Japanese charcoal-fired hearth) although we did not try out this service.

Atami Sekaie is gelegen in Atami, op 2,5 km van Atami Sun Beach en 25 km van station Hakone-Yumoto, en biedt accommodatie met een restaurant, gratis WiFi en gratis privéparkeren. Full disclosure - this place is much fancier than the places we typically stay. It's expensive - but it was worth every yen. The facilities are luxurious. The food is an absolute marvel - creative, beautifully presented, and delicious. The private onsen on our balcony overlooking the ocean is the perfect way to relax. And the staff were all so incredibly kind to us and our children (especially Mayu). Our few days here were amongst the very best we had in Japan. Highly recommend this place for a relaxing, memorable splurge.
