Really good atmosphere at the hostel, its also very clean and the quality of the hostel here is much better than Beijing. They were very helpful with giving routes for the wall, and were quick to respond when we got lost and asked for the way. The dinner though vegetarian was really good, and plenty enough.

the stay exceeded my expectations. both hosts are welcoming, enthusiastic, and down to earth. when we arrived, we discussed our travel plans with the hosts and they gave us plenty of helpful suggestions and even offered driving service. after exploring jinshanling the next day, the host picked us up, gave us a quick tour around gubeikou town, sharing the beauty and history of the town, then sent us to the train station. breakfast was authentic and delicious (loved the soy milk, 油炸饼, and 疙瘩汤). overall, this was a wonderful start to our beijing trip, with comfy place, thoughtful hosts, and beautiful surroundings. highly recommend staying here. 10/10.

My stay at the Derunju Guesthouse, Huairou, at the Great Wall of China: My stay at the Derunju Guesthouse, Huairou, at the Great Wall of China: “The location was magical. Although I did not have a room with a view, as soon as I got out into the corridor, I was surrounded by the beauty of the rugged landscape rising far above, bearing a section of the Great Wall. Having few guests at that rapidly turning wintry weather, the proprietress accompanied me the next day on a 6-km 6-hour walk on the Wall starting from the Guesthouse in Derunju Village. It was a sunny day and this turned out a glorious walk, in which my warm-hearted host showed me every consideration, and we were as companionable as old friends. She told everyone we met that I was 79 and from Malaysia. We climbed up to more than one hill station, the steps in some places being knee-high, and at one point we could see on the opposite side of the lake the section of the Great Wall where it slopes dramatically into the water. In the evening, I feasted on my host’s heartily delicious cuisine… And over the few days of my stay she cooked hot sour soup, jiaozi (northern dumplings) eaten with extremely hot chilli oil, local millet porridge, freshly caught local fish in a local sauce, and home-grown vegetables... We went on a road trip to see some other local sights as well; and I was also very grateful that she helped arrange a taxi for my onward trip to Beijing city. Many thanks for an unforgettable visit. Everything was great and we highly recommend this inn. The personnel goes out of their way to help you. When we arrived late at night and had a payment issue with our card, the girl at the reception insisted we go to our room and solve the issue in the morning, she was more concerned with us getting proper rest than with the payment. I thought that was very thoughtful and we did end up fixing the issue (which was our issue and had nothing to do with them). The room is spacious, clean, quite modern, has all the amenities you need and they provide cleaning every day. We needed some laundry done and they helped us with that too. The inn is in the cafe so that can be a little disconcerting when you get there, but go through the cafe and you will find a small reception. Their coffee is great though so that's a plus in the morning:-) The location is quite traditional, in a hutong in a well known district and you can find a multitude of restaurants and shops all around, we tried some and were not disappointed. You even have a convenience store just around the corner! There are 2 metro stations within walking distance so the location is perfect. Thanks to the hosts for the warm welcome and for making our stay in Beijing so comfortable!
