It is a nice apartment in a garage loft. The space is spotlessly clean and neatly arranged in a "modern Japanese" style featuring tatami mats, futon beds, shoji doors etc. The host, Asami, is incredibly polite and accommodating. She quickly responded to my messages, picked us up from the train station and never bat an eyelid in response to our "on-the-way" chaotic planning. Asami's husband runs a small buddhist temple. It's very serene and open for the guests. You can also opt in for a guided tour, which we did and liked very much. The bicycles that they provided us (for free!) were very useful for exploring the surroundings. We visited Mount Shizugatake and the Nishino Tunnel. The former has splendid views; the lift was closed but it was a very pleasant walk. Regarding the tunnel: it's good to know there are actually two tunnels, the original and the modern one. This made it very easy to split into two groups (... the Adventurers and the Cowards ...). One great surprise was the Cherry Tree Alley leading to a shrine not far from the Shizugatake lower lift station. We thought we had arrived in Japan too late for the cherry blossoms, but here they had this late blooming variety that allowed us take lovely Sakura photos at the end of April!

Guesthouse Shin se encuentra en Omihachiman, a 37 km de Templo Enryaku-ji y a 38 km de Templo Sanzen-in. The location was quiet, in the middle of a residential area so it was very quiet at all times, there was a convenience store about 10mins walk away. The guesthouse was very spacious with a living room, dining room and sitting room on the main floor. There were 2 bathrooms and 2 showers and all very clean!

The owner, Fujiwara, left us wanting for more. He picked us up from the station and gave us a tour of the city, as well as bringing us to a supermarket to get some food for dinner and breakfast the next day. He was incredibly sweet and helpful. The house was beautiful and the city was quiet. We could relax completely. We have nothing else to say but thanks, and we will come back!

Jonni`s Place, que está a 14 km de Templo Enryaku-ji y a 15 km de Templo Shoren-in, ofrece habitaciones en Sakamoto. Jonni was an incredible host. Like the other reviews say, he’s very kind and even picked us up from the local station! He let us know what was going on in sakamoto during our stay and we got to enjoy a lights event at the shrines. If you’re looking for somewhere to stay and check out Kyoto this is perfect! The rooms are spacious and much more affordable than anything directly in Kyoto. Enjoy the scenery, have breakfast at La Alberca up the street, and enjoy Sakamoto. :)

Guest house AN, que cuenta con terraza y vistas al jardín, se encuentra en Otsu, a 12 km de Templo de Daigo-ji. Alojamiento situado en un lugar muy tranquilo, con todas las comodidades que podíamos esperar, en un estilo tradicional japonés, pero con todas las comodidades necesarias. La hospitalidad de los propietarios fue excepcional. Maravilloso.
