Heartfelt Thanks for Exceptional Service at The Bunkhouse To the Management of The Bunkhouse, I am writing to express my sincerest gratitude for the outstanding assistance my two young sons, helena and I, received upon our arrival at The Bunkhouse on the 6th of june 2025 at approximately 12 midnight. Travelling from County Cork, Ireland. I didn't check times to see that reception would be closed at 1030pm.. . However, the situation was swiftly and graciously remedied by two exceptional members of your team. A kitchen staff member, whose name I unfortunately did not catch, went above and beyond to contact Aaron, who promptly came down to assist us. From the moment I met these two young lads, I felt an immediate sense of comfort and reassurance. Their professionalism, kindness, and willingness to help, even in the late hours, truly made a significant difference to our journey. We subsequently enjoyed an absolutely brilliant night's sleep on the lovely beds. My sons particularly cherished the country setting, enjoying a delightful hill walk and interacting with the sheep. These experiences created lasting positive memories for them. We will undoubtedly be returning to The Bunkhouse with my children. Please extend my deepest appreciation to Aaron and the kitchen staff member for their exceptional service. Their dedication and personal touch transformed what could have been a challenging start into a remarkably pleasant and memorable trip. Sincerely, Laura o sullivan

The YHA network is perfectly suited for hikers and more. I was walking the Cumbria Way and decided to stay at this property. It offered everything I needed: a great location, a comfortable bed, access to clean bathrooms, friendly staff, and a self-catering kitchen. Simple, efficient, and exactly what a tired walker needs at the end of the day!

Sweet old building with a great kitchen, or reasonably priced restaurant if you don't want to cook. The rooms were basic but absolutely did the job. The view out the back is beautiful.

Despite some narrow roads getting to and from, the location was great for hiking. Cooked breakfast was tasty. Bunk bed was very comfortable and long enough, despite me being 6'3". I had a bed in the dormitory which was close to a window for some fresh air, which was nice. I wore ear plugs and an eye mask to reduce noise from other sleepers and so I had a very good quality sleep.

You never know with a hostel but this one is very clean, the shared showers and toilets are cleaned on a regular basis even though the YHA was fully booked. The room itself was good as well with a sink. Great location at the lake! The guys at the reception are very friendly and helpful.

Location, restaurant and dining area were all good, and the staff were all kind and helpful. It's an older building and a youth hostel, so by those standards it's doing a good job of upkeep. Bit of cobwebs and dust in the rooms and windows but otherwise ok. The bathrooms (sinks especially) need updating soon, but they function. The best part is the view and the lake in front, and the accessibility to the town.

Great location. I was able to park easily , a big bonus in the Lake District. The Hostel location was perfect to be able to start walking from. Solo traveller and felt very safe here, friendly and helpful staff . Great kitchen and shower facilities. nice and clean . I had shared female dorm , and I requested the bottom bunk and my request had been granted. I would definitely return here.
