I loved how relaxing and peaceful the hostel is. Fabulous views and scenery and lots of birds. The sound of the river and non-existent light polution made for a perfect getaway. Friendly staff and a bargain meal & dessert.

Everything is great, location is stunning, room is nice, people are very nice, breakfast is decent. It is nice to sit in the hall, drink tea or beer and plan your day. Kitchen is alright, the hostel has labeled food boxes, fridges, sharp knives, stoves (which are a bit hard to use for stupid people like myself).

We were very lucky that Jean (who runs the camping barn) was nearby on-site throughout our stay, and she lit the woodburner for us every afternoon, taking the chill off for our return from walks during the freezing weather we have had during Storm Bert. (Sometimes Jean has to stay at her family's other farm elsewhere, and when that happens you have to fend for yourselves more). The beds were very comfortable, there were quilts and hot water bottles to supplement our sleeping bags, and the kitchen was adequately equipped for us to do basic catering for ourselves throughout our stay. The shower takes either £1 or 5x20ps and gives loads of time. There was also a wall-mounted fan-heater which worked on £1 coins but we didn't use that. There's little to no phone reception. The Stagecoach bus 555 runs past very regularly, so very easy access by public transport.

Looking for a hostel?

Budget travellers know that there is no better way to make the most of their trip than by staying at a hostel: save money for exploring during the day, and swap stories with fellow backpackers in the shared kitchen or bar in the evening. Dorm-style bedrooms with shared bathrooms are standard hostel fare, but private rooms are also available for those willing to pay a bit more.
