This is by far one of the most clean and comfortable backpackers/hostels I've ever stayed at. From the moment you arrive, you are met with friendly faces. The staff are fantastic, attentive, helpful and caring. The rooms are a cool oasis with AC, fans, mosquito nets, black-out privacy curtains, comfortable beds and pillows. The rooms are cleaned daily. A lot of attention to detail with the addition of a little coffee and tea station just outside the room. There's a tuktuk driver on call that can take you where you need to be. Although the location is so central in Stone Town that you can easily walk a few minutes into any direction. The street is quiet and peaceful in comparison with the hustle just a couple 100m away.

I liked my long stay in Sanaa. I felt I was taken care of, and the host family made sure I feel comfortable. I stayed for more than a week, and I even had a few remote working days from the hostel. The host let me and my roommate to work from one of their unoccupied apartment with a big living room. There was Wifi, and despite a few laggy periods, it worked great. The location is excellent, only a few mins walk from the ocean, and from little shops. As my roommate was feeling uncomfortable about possibly having any men in our 6-bed room, the host ensured us, that if needed, he can provide a private room for my roommate. Overall a great experience. I definitely suggest for anyone who'd like to have human connections in a familiar and welcoming place in Stonetown.

The Rafiki Hostel is the ideal place for people looking for affordable but well-located accommodation in Stone Town, Zanzibar. A special feature is the small kitchen that you can also use. Although we were just two persons,, we had the entire six-person bedroom for ourselves, which was very pleasant. Thank you so much!

All hostels in Stone Town

Looking for a hostel?

Budget travellers know that there is no better way to make the most of their trip than by staying at a hostel: save money for exploring during the day, and swap stories with fellow backpackers in the shared kitchen or bar in the evening. Dorm-style bedrooms with shared bathrooms are standard hostel fare, but private rooms are also available for those willing to pay a bit more.
