This park is affectionately known to locals as the ‘Nasho’ or just ‘the Royal’. Established in 1879, it’s the world's second-oldest national park. It features unique heritage attractions, along with fascinating plants, birds, and animals. Perfect for bushwalking, cycling, surfing, picnicking, dolphins, or whale watching, this diverse park offers everything from beaches to rainforest. The name Bundeena is an aboriginal word meaning “noise like thunder” and when you hear the waves lap up against the waterfront rocks of the pavilion it’s easy to understand why. You will find traces of the original inhabitants, the Dharawal people in rock carvings and middens throughout the area. For Sydney siders, this is just an hour’s drive from the Sydney CBD, Sydney airport, a 55km drive south of Sydney including the best drive of 25km through the winding roads of magnificent Royal National Park, or a relaxing ferry crossing from Cronulla, the 16,000ha Royal National Park is like a big, beautiful backyard.
