The coastal pods offers a truly unique accommodation experience like no other shipping container accommodation. Built from two shipping containers, we have positioned them on the banks of the beautiful and tranquil Inglis river. Inspired by a trip to New Zealand in 2014 we saw what they were doing with the shopping precinct using shipping containers as temporary shops and cafes. We then set to work to come up with a design that makes the most of the North facing views, and retains original design elements from the containers themselves. We have kept a lot of original features to use as jumping off points for the overall interior design of the property. We want it to feel like your best friend's beach house that you have borrowed for the weekend. We wanted everything to be easy- after all you are on holidays! best of all you can soak in the tranquility of the river precinct, without being too far from civilization and a good coffee or wine or two.
Justin and I live and breathe this business so when I have to comment on hobbies or interests its hard- as there is often no time for such frivolities! We have been in the motel business since 2001, and have lived above the shop for this time. We developed the Coastal pods in 2015 as an alternate luxury accommodation offering adjacent to the motel. Justin is a keen 'apres' sailor and treasurer of the Wynyard Yacht club and we are probably the only members of a yacht club that have never actually been out on a boat! Who has the time!!?? For kicks I (Cyndia) is completing a behavioural science degree via University of Tasmania which keeps me busy in addition to the motel. We have our little dog Mollie, who is a big part of the motel experience. Justin and I have both travelled extensively- prior to motel/ pod life- so we know what we like in accommodation and try to make sure that we can deliver on things that we would like to see in a room for a night or two.
Wynyard is a very pretty little town in North West Tassie. It’s an easy drive to most of the key sights in the area so it really does make a great base to explore from. In terms of Wynyard, there are beautiful walks along the river front and the beach front. We have a great beach front market on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month that has loads of cool vintage items, crafts and produce. There are some great little cafes in town, even a gluten free cafe that does delicious and interesting paleo foods as well. And we have a cool providore as well for all your African spice needs! Best of all is just wandering up and down the streets looking at the second hand shops- I meant those places are like magnets for me to find treasures! And the view from Table Cape is really quite spectacular. Ok its not the gold coast, but the beaches are some of the best- why? Because it’s busy when there's two people on it! Where else can you enjoy the solitude and peace of a beach walk by yourself and still in cooee of a town and airport with direct flights to Melbourne. That's the other awesome thing, you can actually fly direct form Melbourne into Wynyard on Regional Express.
