In 1856, an English stonemason, Thompson Priest, began mining slate in Mintaro. At the same time, he built a home with stables at the rear of his property. Over the intervening years, the stables fell into a desperate state, however, recently, the Stable has returned to life through a sensitive restoration and refurbishment. Set on the edge of Reillys Winery, the Stable is a 100m walk through the vines to the cellar door and further 20 metres to the renowned Magpie Stump Hotel.

We are retired teachers with experience in country, metropolitan and international schools. We have two adult children who have left home now, so we spend our time visiting them, travelling abroad, attending sports matches and concerts and enjoying life in the Clare Valley.
Once you have confirmed your reservation, we will provide you with our email and phone number for contact.
Mintaro is a tranquil village at the foothills of the Clare Valley. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty and is only a few kilometres drive from so many well-known wonders of the Valley. The beautiful countryside presents excellent opportunities for walking, cycling and exploring. However, you will be equally rewarded through relaxing and recharging in our local delights. We will provide you with a complementary bottle of Clare Valley wine to get things started upon your arrival.
With its inspirational location, Stables by the Vines has been designed and refurbished to suit the holiday maker, artist, writer, photographer or musician. Most of the time, the vineyard area around the Stables is extremely quiet and with its proximity to Mintaro's delights, you will enjoy remaining local. However, the town is also a hub to excellent townships and activities and wineries associated with locations such as Clare, Burra, Watervale, Auburn and Seven Hill.
