My home at Point Vernon is only meters from the ocean. It is my sanctuary - a reflection of me and my life's experiences, artworks I gathered, some I've made myself, my photographs, artifacts - treasured memories. My property is a high-set renovated Colonial built 1920s. Downstairs features a purpose built self-contained studio style accommodation. Entry is through a private landscaped garden.
You will be made very welcome and I look forward to long chats on the verandah, drinking good coffee or even a red or two. If it is peace and quiet you need then I completely honor that too and the space where you will stay is designed with this in mind.
Hervey Bay is a Bird Watcher's Paradise...the bird life here is amazing, at times its like living inside a nature reserve. I was amazed to see four very large kangaroos bound across my street only a couple of days ago.
I look forward to meeting new people, developing networks, exchanging knowledge and experience.
Ganma is a word used in NE Arnhem Land meaning a place where saltwater and freshwater comes together, the brackish waters where the best of two worlds merge. This is my home too.
For almost 10 years I've lived and worked in Aboriginal Communities in Western Australia's Pilbara and the top end of the Tanami Desert. For just over 5y I was privileged to spend my time on a remote island community called Milingimbi (500km East of Darwin facing the Arafura Sea) where I managed the Milingimbi Art and Culture Centre. My love and passion for Aboriginal Culture, its People and its beautiful art will always be with me - regardless of where I call home.
I have three adult children, 4 grand-children who have made my life complete. My home at Point Vernon is only meters from the ocean - cool sea breezes, smell of the ocean and sounds at night of waves crashing is perfect. It is my sanctuary - a reflection of me and my life's experiences, artworks I gathered, some I've made myself, my photographs, artifacts - treasured memories.
Close to everything. Point Vernon is a quiet peaceful suburb and sits high at the northern end of the bay. The picturesque coastline of the Bay is just 200m away and the start of a 13km walk/cycle paths that take you all the way to Urangan Pier. Along the way there are endless choices to stop and relax. Enzo's is a Cafe on the beach like no other with its perfect location, relaxed atmosphere and great coffee and food. Pets are welcome too. Further down is EAT - originally owned by My Kitchen Rules winners Dan and Steph - a definite must when visiting the Bay. There's nothing that's ordinary and the Salmon is recommended on their Lunch Menu.
Its Whale Watching Season from July to November each year and its currently in full swing with guaranteed sightings of the gentle giants. Be sure to squeeze in a day trip to Fraser Island too.
Just around the corner, a few meters walk is Brew and View Cafe at Point Vernon - boasting the best Eggs Benedict on the Bay.
A walk along the Urangan Pier is a definite must do. Resident pelicans perch atop the light poles along the length of the 830m long Pier.
